Should we be grooming a long term succesor to Moyes?

Put simply, the main question is should we or can we groom someone in-house to take over from Moyes. A sort of Everton Succession.

If you think it's a good idea, who would you like to see groomed*?

We're Everton, ffs. Go out and find the best manager available, not just some lad who might have learned a few things off another manager.

If the lad in the background is clearly phenomonal, then fair enough, but it's a bit of a stretch to suggest you can just groom any old/young coach in to being a good manager.

the lad needs a bit of experience.

The best man possible for me. Trouble is too many managers are trying to emulate Pep and his style. The Palace manager seems alright but I think he would need to crawl out from his own arse a bit if the fans here were to take to him.

Not a fan of in house strategy given what has happened here in the past.

Baines is the best candidate but it's not something I'd be doing

Should have the best manager we can get. If it’s from in house all the better, but shouldn’t be the deciding factor.

If Baines (or Seamus) had the qualities and ultimately the ability to succeed it would be pretty special.

I do wonder sometimes if the nature of our club needs a particular type of manager with an existing connection or the personality to ‘get’ what the club is all about.

There’s defo something peculiar when the managers we’ve had over the last 30 years have by and large failed so miserably.

Carlo I think had the appreciation of what we and the city are about / expect (or just very good social skills) but was a mere fleeting appointment.
Same with Martinez to some extent but his tactics let him down. He was not shy of bigging Everton up.
Other than them, there’s only been Royle and Moyes since Kendall Mk1 (exc interim ones) who have had what it takes, which seems a bit of an anomaly when you look at who has come and gone.

Outside of that, it feels like we would need a manager with of a cult of personality like Klopp () for example to really change the general feeling around the place and succeed.

Personally I don’t think it’s accurate to say Klopp succeeded due to cult of personality. He was a brilliant coach.

It sounds like a good idea, theoretically, but in practice it almost never happens.

There aren't many examples in English football I can think of where a successful example exists of an internal successor being groomed to take over.

I suppose you could point to Brentford this season, but you'd have to go back to Liverpool and the boot room etc to find an example of this sort of thing being commonplace.

Largely I think it takes a special personality to be able to go from a supporting coach position at a club to taking on the main man role.
