Should we be grooming a long term succesor to Moyes?

Ever see them in a room together?

Nope.

Having a 'successor' looming in the background is a distraction. It instantly undermines the authority of the incumbent who becomes more or less a dead man walking.

Managers should be left to concentrate on their job, not asked to groom their successor.

Personally I don’t think it’s accurate to say Klopp succeeded due to cult of personality. He was a brilliant coach.
Not saying that, what I’m saying is he had a big personality to go with his coaching ability that suited the club.
Walker did well at Norwich but was a disgrace here.
Edam head did well at Southampton but had the wrong personality for here.
Benitez, very successful coach / manger, not right for here.
Lampard had the personality but not the ability.

Of course the coach / manager needs to be capable, but the personality has to be right / big too.

…..one of the U8s, another 20 years of Moyes is a good idea ;)

Thing is about nonsense threads like this is a good coach isn’t necessary going to be a good manager. We tried it and it failed with Colin Harvey.

The best person for the job should get it be that internal or external.

An internal appointment though, with Moyes in the background would be a recipe for disaster.
Just look at United these last few years with whiskey nose still hovering about in the background. There are a string of stories about how he still sticks his two pence worth in whether its wanted or not. I agree its not an idea Id warm too tbh.

We spent years being patters to ex players.

Ferguson outlasted 6 managers and had 3 caretaker stints.

Some lads, who had some actually learning curves, I didnt mind like Jose Baxter because that helps younger lads.

Tony Grant, Jeffers, Phil Jevons (just googled and hes even came back),James Vaughan just some i can recall.

If theyre good enough great, go cut your teeth, show your credentials and have a successful career, if it happens that Everton comes available and theyre a good fit, then great.

Not a salty response, id much rather we spent our resources getting best managers available rather than letting them fly the nest, as our managerial position isnt available.
