Should Phil Neville be anywhere near our first team?

Yeah. If we were looking for a scapegoat we'd look at Fellaini. Gash all day, missed a golden chance to score just before they did.

And even worse for the second. Played a gash ball to Baines which caused him to lose posession, stood and shrugged his shoulders as they got a shot away and then from the resulting corner lost his man.

But its n ot really a case of "blaming" a player for a loss, just in Fellainis case pointing out where he was poor when we lost, and in Nevilles case pointing out where he was poor in most games these days.

Not seen anything different to say playing Felli off the striker is the way to go.

You'll always get hit and miss games with him there

Can only hope this new Belgian loanee will be picked ahead of Neville in midfield. He is so bad there nowadays it is unreal, and if Moyes cannot see that he needs his head testing. Neville has his place; as far away from the football field as possible.

It's just a real shame Moyes won't give Coleman a go at right back.

A 20 odd year old loan will not dislodge Neville

what games you been watching? against utd neville was excellent and was v good v villa and orient dosnt really count today poor but wasnt the only one

He wasn't excellent against United and Villa are should a bad side his performance can't be assessed properly. He's always been a limited footballer but when we've not had pace his ability to slow any move down wasn't really highlighted. Now with Coleman, Baines, Mirallas etc he has no role in our team.

Thought experiment: Can you really imagine Phil gracing even the bench of United/Chelsea/City... he wouldn't even get a game at Liverpool, Spurs Newcastle etc.

We can go lower, could you see that West Brom team finding space for him. He's served us well and been a good captain but it's time we moved on.

Don't think Neville is as terrible as many are making him to be but, we have better options than him. Hibbert is better than him at RB, and Coleman should be given a fair chance at that position. At CM we Gibson, Fellaini and Osman shold be in front of him and hopefully Odjidja will get a proper chance as well as he seems a very talented player. It wouldnt make any sense to bring a player as talented as Odjidja to let him warm the bench.

In conclusion Neville should only play if the players mentioned above are not available.

I dont think neville was noticeably any worse than anyone else today. Felli was poor, naismith seemed only to play the way he was facing, osman was too deep and i'm not sure about Pienaar having a floating role at times. Mirallas shouldn't have come on on the left, but i can't blame moyes for trying something different. At the end of the day, west brom played very well, and we never got our passing together. West brom sat deep and made it very difficult for us to get behind them. It might have been different if felli had out that chance away, but he didn't and we got punished.

If we win our next game then 9 points out of 12 would be a good start

The problem with Neville is that you sell him in the summer or you don't sell him at all. You don't sell your club captain in January, so we're saddled with him until the end of the season.

I was actually happy we rejected that bid from Spurs that January because you really, really don't want to sell your club captain mid-season, regardless of how remarkably cack he is.

This is basically a Hibbert vs Neville thread. I don't see why any sane person would want him starting in midfield.

He's a good defensive midfield player. He and Gibson dominated the midfield against United. He's a good option, with his experience and discipline is a good option for us in dm.
