Short memories... Fellaini needs to be in the middle of the park.

I think we should stick felli back . We play much better when we play fluid direct football than hoof ball. Look at when felli started that goal at swansea this season he was in the the middle . With gibson also in it gives fellaini more space to roam foward so we have a good balance

I dont think Jelavic is getting told to go out wide, i think, on his own accord he is going out wide to get a bit of space for himself because of Fellaini.

I think Naismith should start in the hole.

The hole in my back garden that is HAHAHAHAHAHA!

We have been playing fluid direct football with Fellaini at CAM.

People need to see beyond the number of goals Fellaini has scored, and that's coming from somebody who loves STATS.

We hoof the ball much more when Fellaini is played higher up, and while it plays to his strengths I don't think the knock on effect of what it does to Jelavic is acceptable.

Sure, we could play the ball along the floor more while keeping Felli behind Jelavic, but then it begs the question why we'd even play him there, as his long ball dominance is what makes him so good in that position. He's not terrible at playing the ball on the ground by any means, but he's no Mirallas either.

Fellaini playing in his destroyer role in the middle would lead to us conceding less stupid goals, and would really strengthen up our midfield.

Compared to when? When Cahill was playing in that spot? If so, I completely disagree, I think it's the opposite actually.

Compared to the few times he's dropped back or hasn't played this season? Possibly, but only because Jelavic is fairly terrible at this and offers no real outlet. I think that's a negative actually, we don't necessarily have the best passing CB pairing in the league.

What Moyes needs to do is give Fellaini more freedom, don't play him as a 10 or a 6, play him as an 8 where he can impact both boxes. Maybe change to a 433 with Gibson protecting the back 4 and Fellaini and Osman/Barkley as CMs/ACMs. Which could turn into a 415 when we attack and a 451 when we defend. Just give the big Fella the freedom to run the entire pitch.

Right now we don't have the proper personnel to play a 4231 like we do. We would need a true #10 like Ozil, Rooney, Kagawa, Holtby, etc. to properly play with that formation. Who knows maybe Barkley could be that player but, going back to Fellaini yes he should be playing further back with the freedom to join the attack or help protect our box.

Love how you threw Holtby in there you bad man.

I do think he'd be an ace shield to the back four if he was played alongside Gibson. Perhaps Newcastle's goals wouldn't have happened with his aerial presence sitting in front of the back four. We'd concede less goals, BUT we'd probably score less based on current evidence. Can't help but think the "it's Fellaini's fault Jelavic isn't scoring" argument is a myth. Jelavic was slotting for fun last season with Fellaini up there with him.

Safe option would be looking to find a great DM to supplement Gibson and keep Felli terrorising defences and perhaps a more risky course of action would be dropping Felli back and looking for someone who offers similar bossness to Mo behind the striker (nearly impossible, really). Barkley might not be that man. Probably not here anyway so we're looking at a pretty expensive purchase.
