Shoot on sight - aggressive or selfish?

Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
Noticed this season, certainly over the last few weeks, the attacking players we have are shooting whenever they are in any kind of position. Mirallas and Deulofeau are obvious candidates for this, and whilst they've scored some beauties as a result, I'm sure Lukaku must be tearing his hair out at the lack of chances that get sent his way.

What do you fellas think? Is it a positive thing or do our attacking players need slightly better judgement on when to go themselves and when to try and play others in?

I'm thinking for instance of when Mirallas had burst clear and a really simple pass would have put Pienaar clean through but he went himself and fluffed it.

Lakaku is a victim of his own early success.

Teams saw his early success so pay him very close attention. Give him little space.

So bobby changed the tactics to make us less predictable.

Every one can shoot in a gun fight.

Think it will come round again. Lakaku will be getting more service as he gets more space

I've always been a keen supporter of shooting and shots as you well know. But i do think attempting a 40 yard curler, rather than a short slot to Lukaku is a no brainer.

Bob will sort it.

Still not forgiven Mirallas for not laying it on a plate yesterday for Lukaku.

He should have known it would be a tricky game with few chances...these are the moments to put the team first and not go for the harder self glory option.

Fortunately...2 worldie strikes made it irrelevant but for me you choose the man in the goal scoring position.

That doesnt mean dont have a crack from 20 yards if theres nothing better on though.

Shooting from anywhere keeps the D from sagging in but some of our players are doing it a bit too much. Lukaku isn't getting service (but at least I think we are proving we can win without him) but he's proving to be a menace on corners its just we didn't win many corners yesterday.

I think Bob likes it though. Read somewhere that Wigan had the most shots and/or goals from outside the box.

I think it is a confliction of interest and a good relflection of how we have progressed. A couple pf months ago there were calls that we were trying to walk the ball into the net. NOw we shoot on sight and it is questioned! The way i look at it, if Kev and Sheamus can stick a few of their shots away like they have been doing then isn't it a good thing? We would be predictable if we played it up to Lukaku every chnace we got so if we are a danger from 6 other players in the attack then we will be feared. If they think we will shoot on sight then it frees Lukaku up in the middle when they close down. If they defend deep to counter lukaku then we are proving we can score from range. The best thing is, if they chop us down near the box we now have more than one free kick taker that can punish them. Either way it proves that we are worthy of our league position!

.....its about getting the right balance. I agree that Lukaku must find Mirallas particularly frustrating, but the fact that he has a pop is a reflection of how confident he is in his own ability. I'm sure we will get it right and the opportunities and goals will start to flow for Lukaku. One great pass and finish is all it will take to turn things around.

Its just very clever, very very clever.

Early season, its all about Lukaku. Then teams close in on him, then Robby gets players to shoot more.

Now defenders dont know weather to stick to Rom, or charge the attackers down.

Love it.

Can have it's benefits.

I have to agree with the poster who bemoaned Mirallas' lack of decision to pass! Why not pass lad!

If that would have been the reason why we got 1pt instead of 3, a lot of oeople would be raging over Kev right now, completely selfish.

It's positive that we shoot on sight now, definitely...see Seamus yesterday. But no doubt, our players need better judgement overall. I think this is slowly improving...the new philosophy we're playing is still not even half a season old.

Not sure what games you've been watching Bruce tbh. There were several instances yesterday where the supporters were screaming for somebody to hit the ball but they didn't. Barkley does it all the time !

Lukaku himself does it though, so he has no right to complain really.

On two occasions yesterday I was screaming for Mirallas to slide it to Lukaku. The first one he hit straight at the keeper. The obvious one a while after would of given Lukaku a great chance to put us one up.

I'm worried by this decision making to be honest. Its things like this that at some point in this season is going to cost us a few important points. Mirallas could clearly see Rom was better positioned..... surely ??

He did the same thing against fulham. Ok we were already 3-1 up, last minute but instead of laying it off for Lukaku who was completely free and unmarked, he had a go..... went through the keeper who was poor. The 3 points were ours anyway so no big deal but I'm a little concerned about the decision making in the final third.

I shouldn't complain really but I feel it will come back to haunt us in the end.
