PAH unlucky mate, I'm impressed you've not disowned him. You're Derry people aren't you? I've got loads of family on the Bogside.

yea shane was born in derry,i am from donegal ...whats there name i know quite a few in the bogside....its only 10 mins from our house...

I have to say I'm always quite disappointed when our youth products don't make it at Everton. I can't help but feel that anyone who's come through our system is likely to get it, far more than someone who's come along for a payday. That matters an awful lot to me as a supporter, so I'm genuinely happy when someone comes through and makes a position their own.

I suspect CB is the 2nd hardest place to break in to a team, so when an opportunity comes along you've got to take it. Let's hope we can get on in the cups, and make ourselves more comfortable in the league so the likes of Shane and Mustafi can get their opportunities.

To Shane's dad - please pass on the wishes and good luck to your lad. Lord knows most of us would give anything to pull on the Royal Blue shirt - so let's all make sure we're right behind these lads who do get that chance.

I think that a lot of people thought that Shane would have been pushing for first team outings in the season just past.We sometimes see youngsters suddenly move away from their compatriots and move their performances up a level or two to get in contention for a first team game.
At the end of season 2009/2010 Shane was making just such a move.We all expected that he would push for the first team last season, because of the injury that didn't happen.
Hopefully this season he will be able to resume his progress.Brian will probably know what is in store for Shane for the coming season,a full season in the championship playing games every Saturday would certainly help his progress. However, the manager may wait to see how he is performing in pre-season and ould keep him at Everton as part of the group of first team centrehalves if he impresses.

Seriously, how cool is it that Shane's Pops jumped on here to defend his boy's honor..

Get Duffy on FFS!!

Goes to show the great progress this forum has made in the past few years ,when Shanes dad pops in to discuss his lads progress through the Everton ranks.
Welcome aboard Brian.

I am hopin Shane becomes an everton and ireland LEGEND for years to come. Horrific injury and the speed at which he bounced back even to training was incredible, showed tremendous strength of character for such a young lad. Him and mustafi were a class act together i hope they are the future and Shane showed v Bate that he defo has the ability to step up

Welcome aboard Brian - it only took you nearly three years to post properly!

Duffy remains an exciting prospect for Evertonians, and we're all hoping he isn't physically and/or mentally affected by his accident. Reminds me of an "old fashioned" centre half like Dave Watson when I've seen him.

Get your lad to give GOT an interview sometime ;)

The track record is undeniable mate. They get the top players right before anyone has heard of them.

Unfortunately, they also have the odd Serge Makoko, Ibrahima Bakayoko, Cherno Samba moment too.

I've got a whole bunch of wonderkids born -96 and onwards, I'm guessing this is what Moyes' Dier/Vellios-moments are all about!

Classics. Also Henri Saivet and Freddy Adu, lest we forget.

Got a feeling Khouma Babacar ain't gonna make it either, ha.

But i got a good feeling about Shane. Just something about his story that really fits the Everton mould, eh? Unlikely hero and all.
On FM he has a PA of -8, by the way. Which grants him the potential to, in the right circumstances, reach dizzying heights of a CB like Jagielka. This is a good thing - future first-choice irish centre back? Hopefully. Remember, FM2011 also gives Ross Barkley a -8 PA.
