Sharpy’s return

You can score all the goals in the world, but you'll still be a nobhead.
There are plenty of players we've had, legends amongst them, who I'd say are largely nobheads tbh mate. Some even from the same Everton team Sharpy played in.

For the most part you can look past all of that because of what he/they did for the club. Headlockgate and him standing by the board after it was a low point, but I like to think/hope we can move past that at some point. It doesn't feel right us vilifying a genuine Everton legend over one mistake like that.

One mistake?

You having a go at the fans lad?

Speaking on the Sky Sports special, Sharp took his opportunity to land a blow on the Everton fans.

Before we got to those good times, there were a lot of low times and it’s really tough to leave Goodison,” he said.

“It wasn’t always a full house the attendances were pretty poor at times and you could always hear every criticism aimed at you and you could even see that person in the crowd giving it to you.”

I respect him more for doubling down.

He's going to need a JCB to dig himself out of what he's going to say next. Half expect him to call us all the C word during the finale of the show on Sunday.

This rat coming out of the woodwork in time to get his snout in the trough....and some are talking about giving him the chance to apologise.

He's had that chance. It came and went. Just GTF.

And shame on all those trying to rehabilitate him in the media and those people putting on players nights with him involved.

Crap his last few seasons as well , harsh but fair
In all the books I've read about the demise of the 80s team he's front and centre as a player who'd downed tools and couldn't;t be arsed after Kendall left.

He and a few other sabotaged this club at the end of the 80s. They couldn't give a shiny one and gave us no chance of transitioning into the 90s.

That's also his playing legacy.

One of our greatest players
Major part of one of our greatest teams
One of our greatest Number 9s
Legend
Evertonian
That’s all that matters in the end .
Everything else is peripheral.

Haven't seen Sharp's comments on radio and telly, but it sounds like he's trying to attack the situation: have a go at fans and Everton of old on and off the pitch. Attack being the best form of defence.

He's got a brass 'kin neck on him, I'll hand him that much.

I dont think I could ever respect anyone who welcomes that feller back into the fold.

Red line issue for me.

Sharp is just toxic - he always was and always will be.

No it's not. It's very much not peripheral.
Personally the ultimate focus is what happens on the pitch.
However I may or may not disagree with Sharp’s actions as a board member it will never distract from his achievements and commitment to the club on the pitch .
We are a football club , everything that matters happens on the pitch and there Sharp was an exemplary Everton player in an outstanding team.
If we begin detracting from , denigrating or devaluing his role in that team , we are losing something of ourselves .
We are a football club not a political party and the football and success we may enjoy trumps every other consideration or value judgment.

It should be easy to distinguish between the fine job he did on the field and the incredibly poor job he did off it without having to forget either things are true. Great footy player, crap human, and crap board member of our fine club.
