Sharpy’s return

It should be easy to distinguish between the fine job he did on the field and the incredibly poor job he did off it without having to forget either things are true. Great footy player, crap human, and crap board member of our fine club.
Crap human ?
Really ?
I have had the privilege of meeting Graeme Sharp , crap human ?
Nah !
He is actually a decent bloke and very self effacing.
It has to be possible to disagree with his actions when a board member without resorting to deliberately insulting one of our greatest players .
If he was a ‘crap human’ what does that say of our support for him when we were winning trophies?

Personally the ultimate focus is what happens on the pitch.
However I may or may not disagree with Sharp’s actions as a board member it will never distract from his achievements and commitment to the club on the pitch .
We are a football club , everything that matters happens on the pitch and there Sharp was an exemplary Everton player in an outstanding team.
If we begin detracting from , denigrating or devaluing his role in that team , we are losing something of ourselves .
We are a football club not a political party and the football and success we may enjoy trumps every other consideration or value judgment.
I agree with all of this & despite my criticism above I loved him playing for us.
THAT goal v Spurs probably the best I've seen at Goodison.

Yes, and he packed in playing and took the piss in the last few seasons at this club.

His conduct as a director underlined he'd felt held done enough to get a free ride fro the rest of his life...and now INCREDIBLY he's getting the door opened up for him again to claim a few more quid by 'entertaining' fans on the speaking circuit.

Anyone who who's on board with that have lost it as a fan. He spat in our faces. There's no way back. I dont care if his names Dixie Dean.

I am incredulous at that last line .
Are you supporting a football club or an idealised version of what you expect a football club to be ?
Ultimately it sounds as if your support is essentially for yourself rather than for Everton Football Club .
Your apoplexy , as ever, leads you into darker mental cul - de -sacs the longer the debate continues.
Suffice it to say our opinions differ markedly on this topic .

We will agree to disagree. His one man and his dog" comment was poor. He continues to be derogatory to the fanbase even this week continuing it. I certainly won't lose sleep over it as it's not uncommon for sportsmen to not be the best people, never meet your heroes etc. Glad you enjoyed his company.

Highest pre war goal scorer for us - misled by Bull crapper BK - if you had been in his position you would have took the promotion - you just cant forget his playing days for us - BK fooled us too !

I respect him more for doubling down.

He's going to need a JCB to dig himself out of what he's going to say next. Half expect him to call us all the C word during the finale of the show on Sunday.
He was a wonderful Everton player. Outstanding centre forward. So many happy memories. He was my hero after Big Bob. He took over the Latch and I was at his debut when he cam on as sub at Nottingham Forest on the Friday Night. Then I seen him make his full debut when we played away at Brighton Hove Albion. We travelled by coach on the Friday Night. What a trip that was following the Blues. Hope he says the right things on Sunday if gets interviewed. Up The Toffees.

They really do play some sentimental Evertonians like a grand piano dont they?

He scored a load of goals and we won stuff and he made a mint as a player, players ambassador and director of this club...and now he wants more cash to see him into old age.

That's all fine and good...IF that person hadn't have shat in the face of our fans by refusing to denounce...and still refusing to denounce...the disgusting aspersions cast about our fans VIOLENTLY assaulting their own board of directors.

If you can forget all that just so this feller can play a violin and get a few quid off you, be my guest.

Greatest post war goalscorer though Dave. And we all do things we later regret.

I know. I've always said he gets his place in history. And if he came back with the 80s team it makes sense..

But as an individual I just cant stomach that man.

I wish I could. Just not possible for me, tbh. And that's not trying to be uber-Everton or whatever...there's loads who feel like I do.

Agree but I do hope he says the right things now. Hope he wants to be an Everton Fan. Just like us. C.O.Y.B.

That's fair enough. I met him and Ian Snodin on the same day and yes, I would opt to spend time with Snods 100% of the time if given the choice of the two.

Personally my view is anyone who stood or stands by that awful board and the decisions they made during one of the darkest times in our club, needs to take a long hard look at themselves and re-evaluate whether they are part of the people's club. I don't mean fans, I mean ex players, pundits, board members and (as I just saw on twitter) the sentient scotch egg, Sean Dyche.
