Duffy would make no difference...any pair of C B's you care to name would struggle in this team, granted the current incumbents are not in the best of form, but the overall leaking of goals is a whole team thing, front to back.
2 of our managers who looked at the lad every day in training, patently weren't confident in his ability at PL level.
I wish the lad well, but I'd have good money that he never makes a quality PL CB.
The only reason this thread has resurfaced is that we're defending like drains at the minute, but it doesn't somehow make Duffy the lost answer.
Both managers had their own personal favourites who they were going to play no matter what
Some may say it's "small time" to keep a player who isn't super duper amazing. No, it's not small time at all, it's loyalty to the people who came up from your own system who still have more to give
He was okay mate, don't get me wrong. He was also a fat peehead who liked the cheeseburgers a bit too much.
Average player mate. Not arsed we sold him. Rooney, though, on the other hand.... Still gutted we sold him.
He was clearly not good enough. End of discussion
Let it go Mikey lad. He was never good enough. He had long enough at the club to prove he was up to standard, and failed to impress not one but two managers.Need to show your working before your answer can be considered mate

Assumptions Michael. The manager/coaches see a player most days in training and are in a far better place to pass judgement than we are. Bottom line mate is he wasn't good enough, despite your continued protests. He impressed enough to be offered a new contract
So the club wanted him but just weren't prepared to give him a higher place in the squad, because of the aforementioned Alcaraz situation
Average certainly not. Whatever his size and weekly McDonalds intake quota, I watched every game he played for Ireland and saw a lot of him at City too.
He was their player of the year for 4 years running. As bad as they may have been at times, you don´t do that in a Premier League team unless you are consistently performing to a pretty high standard. He was also in the PFA team of the year in 2010.
I think many fans wouldn´t have been too pushed at him leaving us, but you are doing him a disservice writing him off as average.
As an Irish fan, I hope Duffy goes on to have as good a career as Dunne after us, because god knows we need a new solid dependable centreback to lead the defence in the future.
Yeah, Hopefully Duffy can lead Dunne to the glorious days of fighting off relegation that Dunne did in the Premier League with City, and Duffy did in the Championship, with, errr, Yeovil.
If only Duffy had put in this much effort he might still be here@mythbuster and @bicycleheader having the most impassioned argument about Shane Duffy you're ever likely to see.
