Never read too much into preseason games. A good preseason doesn't automatically turn into a good season, nor vice versa.
We're not even having a bad pre-season per se. What we had available from a first choice XI today was narrowly beaten by a very good side, but it took a penalty to do so. Then our youngsters, supplemented by the likes of Schneids & Mirallas are beaten by a German premier outfit. Earlier we had beaten Monaco and drawn two other games after dominating play. Our only really poor performance was away to Wigan.
We all know what the shortfalls in the squad are, and we are trying to overcome them if you believe what the management team are saying. All the rumours would certainly point to this.
Our lack of creativity is concerning, especially the fact that Iceland is so off the pace, but there is still 2 weeks before the season starts and hopefully the new players and the return of Richy will sort this out. Luckily we have a reasonable start to the season to get up to speed. And don't forget up until that second game today we have looked very sound defensively throughout pre-season. The complete reverse of last year.
Don't get me wrong, it would be great to be knocking 3 or 4 in every game, but wouldn't it be better to save the best form until the league actually started.
