I'm not sure that is true. Obviously it will be heavily influenced by the comings and goings of this summer, but at present our second string could look like this

Kenny Mina Jagielka Baines
Lookman Schneiderlin Davies Bolasie
Vlasic
Tosun

I don't think a team like that is necessarily guaranteed to fail in the group stages, but even if it did, we would earn about 15 million just for being in the group stages.

Assuming we bring in a new centre forward and possibly a RB that would be our early round 2nd string realistically and thats more than good enough to overcome some farmers.

Anyone who doesnt want Europa League is foolish. Its another chance to win a trophy and it gives us a chance of qualfiying for the CL.

We aint finishing in the top 4 anytime soon.

It also gives us the opportunity to bag some co-efficient points so that when we are ready for the Champions League we don't end up in pot 4. We currently have 17.0 points but 14.0 of those points are from season 14/15 which will drop off the rankings next season.

Until any potential revenue boost from the BMD comes in then Europe offers us the best route to bring in extra revenue.

I would much rather Wolves, Watford or Leicester wrecked their seasons personally.

It's not just the shortened summer break, or the likely extra games for the players involved, and you could rotate heavily, or even the travel - which can often be lengthy, the main reason is the heavy disruption that comes with Thursday night and Sunday football and the accompanying lack of any proper preparation which can give the opposition a huge advantage.

There is also the mental fatigue of so many games and competitions which can take it's toll.

League form, especially early on, can suffer, and while this isn't inevitable it is more than likely and adds an extra burden we could do without as we look to build on this season, and not go backwards like last season.

West Ham, Southampton, Burnley and ourselves have suffered relatively recently - last season's misadventure may well have contributed to Kidman's downfall, the nightmare of Unsworth and the panic that ended up with us approaching Allardyce.

If, as last season, the fixture list does us no favours early on, and whose to say that won't happen again, then we could end up sleepwalking into some dystopian nightmare scenario - if the Europa qualifying rounds were added to our misery.

For any slight money gained from the Europa, and it's far from lucrative or a money spinner even in later rounds, the cash potentially lost through a poor league season can dwarf this.

If we get a full close season and continue to progress from this season then we may well be in a far better position to challenge the top four or six, then we can enter without any qualifying rounds as well as being stronger, further advanced in our development and far better equipped to cope with the added European ties.

hope we can step up our push now, the result yesterday was fairly big as leicester could weirdly be our biggest challengers. Wolves could finish the season with a limp after that turnaround in the FA Cup (but soton never do us any favours so i wouldn't count on that, whereas watford now will have 1 and a half eyes on the FA Cup final.
