Its a fantastic competition. What is wrong with people???

It really isn't.

It only gets half interesting at the last 16 stage.

The extra games that invariably damage the league form of those who participate, combined with having half of league fixtures moved to a bleeding Sunday, which is a pain in the arse.

You only play 2 extra games compared to the CL, ignoring the qualifiers.

People go on like you play about 12 more.

I agree the Sunday issue would be poo though.

Why was noone ever done for that Wimbledon game btw? I wasn't even alive at the time but it seems so obvious to me that there was something going on in the match, just look at the players who are attempting to put tackles in etc, and didn't Wimbledon have a couple of proven match fixers in their team?

The europa would be a waste of everyones time i agree but it is still european competition.

Look if the teams that finish above us for the Champions league spend 100 million every summer then regular Europa is the next best thing. The whole ruins your season is just a myth as Moyes proven that you can compete twice, just play your best youngsters with the odd bit of experience in there (hibbert for example) to see you throught the group stages.

Plus the competetion attacts better players to the club. Granted we arent competing with Chelsea for a 50 million pound player but between a newcastle tpye team who only have the league and Everton in europe competition then there will be only one winner. Not that we would compete transfer wise with them clubs but you get my drift.

I just think we should embrace the competition as its something to win, a chance for our under 21s to make a name for themselves and we can at least bring a little bit of glamour to our season once we reach the knockouts.

If nothing else, imagine a team of Green, Lundstrum, Hope, Mcaleny, Browning, Garbutt, Joel, Stones, Kennedy, Gueye, Vellios playing meedweek followed by the seniors winning on the sunday?

BTW i know i have just named 11 random names there but again you get my drift.

There's no way to paint it as a successful period. We were 2 points off the top of the league at xmas. Where are we now?

We only needed one more player IMO and that's a CM. I was disappointed we didn't get that but there's no way it was as bad as some are making out.

The thought of playing in the Thursday cup just leaves me cold, an awful compitition IMO.

Well the thought of another cabon copy season that promises so much (4th) and delivers so little (7th) leaves me cold. European football would make it exciting for the fans - Champions League is so unrealistic so Europa it is!

And never lost at home in the league.

Very true, Mr. B.

It has to be said though that records are there to be broken.

And that particular record only remains standing thanks to a referee awarding a ridiculous injury time penno when Baggies went to The Bridge earlier this season.

West Ham took a point there the other week.

No reason why we can't take one at least.

For some it´s over before it started . Maybe they find it easier that way ,but if you would have said at the start of the season we would be where we are now I would have been more then happy. It´s Robo´s first season in charge ,he has us playing some great footy ,he is hungry for success ,positive and forward looking . I will take what ever we get this season as a bonus .The expectation levels are to high if you ask me .But we are still there ,with nothing to lose ,a cup and a european place up for grabs and the team coming back together after a devastating period of injurys .Looking forward to the challenge me self . There are still lots of ups and downs to go this season.COYB!

Win our game in hand and we are 5 points off 4th? Spurs and liverpool play each other so points will be dropped.

Get a grip ffs

Top post.

And there seems to be a mood on here at the moment that Chelsea next week is a forlorn hope.

FFS they couldn't beat West Ham down there.

No reason we can't take something from that game.

It's not over yet.

It's a fantastic competition. What is wrong with people???

More of this please.

Aye the record only stands because of a last gasp dodgy penalty, is that not an example of bias refereeing as it is talked about?

Some games you know are a write off before you even turn up for the game. Chelsea away is one of them, they just dont lose at home under Mourinhio and the west brom game proves that.

Look i want us to go there and win, id rather lose 4-1 and at least try then lose 1-0 doing what west ham did and defend for 90 minutes. At least losing by a few but playing with a bit of determination shows we are going there to not be second best and play the team not the players so to speak. We did for 11 years under moyes and look how that turned out.

Its win or nothing in my eyes, whats the point in not going for the win considering we would be playing teams like them every week if we finished 4th?!

the problem with 'we need champions league for the money to buy good players' is that it would give us enough to purchase one amazing player. Spurs bought...3(?) players for more than 20mil each in the last window. Its gotten to the point where making the champions league to keep up with the other clubs is hugely out the window because teams not even in the champions league are spending huge without it already.
