Yeah because if you or I or any average person were being paid £50/60/70K (?) a week for pretty much nothing for as long as we wanted a wage, we'd all voluntarily give that up to prove a point.
Only one who should be embarrassed is the club who still retains a player on a top wage who has been finished for at least 2 years. Would any other club in the league give a new contract to a guy who played 5 games the year previous? It's a few million quid in your pocket for virtually nothing, would you say no?
