Seamus Coleman isn't up to it.

I don't think too many of our players covered themselves in glory yesterday. It's easy and convenient to say "if only player X had done better we'd have won easily". Fact is that none of the fans' darlings played well, Baines, Fellaini, Pienaar, Jelavic, all well below their potential. If just a couple of them had done their job, we wouldn't be talking about Coleman.

I don't understand our players sometimes, at least half our squad probably reckons they should be playing in the Champions League, but here is their shot at the bigtime, and they don't seem that bothered about it.

He is very fluctuant, he did some excellent things yesterday, but he could have done better for some goals recently, still finding his feet week in, week out. Was never a Pen btw.

Complements Belg Kev well.

I think Coleman's supposed attacking prowess is being greatly exaggerated, as is his supposedly beneficial effect on the team, as our form has been dreadful since he came into the team.

Some people clearly have a problem with acknowledging his limitations for some reason.

any teams form would suffer if they had good goals chalked off and blatant penaltys turned down. seamus is sound.

Coleman's attacking, decent

Coleman's defending, not so decent.

In hindsight his defensive performance wasn't much worse than Hitzelberger yesterday.

that might also coincide with gibson going out

Coleman is a 60k purchase learning his trade yet people expect debuchy Kind of performances...

Begger's belief !!

As much as we'v improved as an attacking side in style of play...we're not as good as what we think we are!
Are we really any better than the last best squad we'v had in years?? From what I remember it was the same back then... We can't score/finish teams off. We don't have game winner's like the other teams do. Fellaini/mirallas maybe to a certain extent but look at the game winners in the top top sides.. They have many aswell as them stacked up on the bench.

Reality has kicked in for me this last few weeks tbh.

More exciting yes, but not sure if this team is better than the side that finished 5th with Lescott, Jags, Arteta, Saha etc. We used to kill teams on free kicks and never give up goals on them either, that is prob the difference between this team and that one. However the top 8 is much better than the top 8 of a few years ago so maybe this team is better. .

not having that coleman is learning his trade nonsense, he has been here for 3 years and still makes stupid challenges at the back.
there are other RB and LB who are great at going forward and not great defensively difference is they dont make stupid challenges when trying to get back,

playing two small wing backs is lethal, that cross diagonal ball will get him everytime, baines isnt great at dealing with that either but he doesent just lunge in and give away the free kick

Coleman may have been here for 3 years but he's never played a competitive game at RB until this season.

So I take it you're blaming Coleman for the penalty? Fair enough. Why then are you choosing to ignore the two VERY important tackles he made to foil a Reading counter attack? You know, the one where he chased down the Reading attacker when it looked like he had no chance of getting back, before executing an inch perfect slide tackle? Remember that?

Wind it in.

Coleman offers far more going forward than Hibbert ever has done, he's just not quite up there with his defensive ability yet, he'll get there. And there really isn't as much of a gulf in defensive ability than loads of people seem to be suggesting.

Besides, with Hibbert and now Neville out, who else do you expect to play there? Heitinga?

It's crazy. How much grief does Moyes get for not playing the youngsters? He's finally starting to trust Coleman at RB after years of being shoe horned in to RM and now you want to take a step backwards and put Hibbert in? What are you going to do next, boo Coleman?

yes he has he was given a spell there before and kept on diving in giving away free kicks, which was why he was moved to Rm, now he has been moved back to RB and is again making too many mistakes

Coleman is one of the fastest improving and learning players I've seen.

He gives us so much balance, and defensively he's looked better and better every game. He's the best option we have, and could develop into a top top drawer right full back.

He's still very inexperienced as a right back, therefore he will make mistakes. It's just unfortunate that every mistake he makes atm seems to lead to a goal. As others have said, he made some very important tackles/interceptions yesterday and we could all see there was no need to make that challenge in the box. That all comes with experience.

Would you care to tell me when this spell was? And by a spell I mean a run of consecutive games. The only way he is going to improve is by playing at RB and learning from his mistakes. I'm confident he'll become an important member of the team and make the RB position his for the foreseeable future.
