I only want him playing when gibson is playing to protect the defence more. His forward play is great but also the main reason we are leaking goals. Much prefer hibbert in the role. We have enough flair to be able to play with a more natural defender

Baines, Everton's best player by a country mile also doesn't defend so well at times...and he's got a settled partnership with Pienaar.

Bill, you're popcorning.

Nope. It's a FACT that Hibbert is a much better defender than Coleman. Anyone else saying differently is just on a windup. I like Coleman. He's a good player. But not at right back where defending is a priority.

Jh has a stinker & fans blame Coleman who had no one in front of him in the 2nd half he had two men to mark as Naismiths legs went yet again no pace a bad 2nd half but JH was poor the whole game!

Bill, you won't like this, but you're wrong here mate.

Coleman isn't perfect. Far from it. But if you're telling me Hibbert has never made these mistakes I'd be worried about you.

Coleman offers a hell of a lot more going forward than Hibbert. And they are both as bad as each other at the back.

So it's picking the best of a bad bunch.

Agreed.

Hibbert settles our defence. He may not be the best when trying to push forward but you cant fault him for his defending. Even with his lack of pace his timing when putting in challenges, tracking back etc is quite good

Thats it, let's just let Seamus know he will never start a match ever again, but we'l bring him on the wing as an impact sub the odd time, he'l be grand with that, sorted.

I'm not convinced that full backs are defenders in the modern game, they tend to be utilised much more like midfielders, as I said in the match thread, even the best full backs in the game at the moment get slaughtered defensively, such as Maicon against Gareth Bale when Tottenham beat Inter 3-1. Maicon's performance in this video is a lot worse than Coleman's was today.

we are so mental, cos he is good at going forward he MUST be sh1t at the back, thus every mistake is highlighted, backward thinkin at its best

Defo this

...just confirmed what I already knew about him. ****e defender. But yeah, he sure can get forward in dangerous positions and whip in good crosses. Lot of good that did us today.

Hibbert can't get back soon enough.

I don't ever want to see Coleman at right back again. Either right mid or on the bench as an impact sub.

Hibbert is needed in these game i.e Reading and Fulham away.

I think there are a few issies:

1. Coleman stupidly kicked away the ball in the first half and received a yellow knowing that he can't really foul their players.
2. He was trying to do those Hollywood run with ball (in the second half) in our own half when he could not find anyone to pass. Just hoof it for god sake. He did not learn from that Fulham mistake.
3. Lost the French name dude when marking him that led to their 1st goal.
4. Gave away the pen.

To sum up, he does not know how to defend.

Coleman could be as good as Baines in time. At the moment though he has played a key part in goals that we've conceded against Liverpool, Fulham and Reading. Do we have any options but to stand by him? I think Moyes needs to use some good man-management and coaching to get him through this period without it affecting his confidence too much.
