Pleased it Hearts v Rangers. As I posted a couple of days ago, I was hoping for a Hearts v Rangers final, and that Rangers beat Red Bull Leipzig in the Europa semi final - and come home knackered!

Brings back memories of the 1990s, when the two clubs battled out three cup finals in successive seasons.

97/98 Hearts win their first trophy in 36 years, one of the most emotional days in history.

Rangers will be strong favourites to go on to win the tournament, but who knows, maybe this can be Hearts’ year. I’ll be at Hampden roaring on the Jam Tarts; Edinburgh’s biggest, oldest and most successful football club.

Celtic fans sure don't want Rangers winning, but Hearts winning a trophy will upset them as well. Sure don't you love to see it?

It's the only final in May you'll be seeing.

That suits me fine. A win for Celtic yesterday, would psychologically have destroyed Rangers, but that's the thing though they didn't win. Rangers won.

Hopefully Craig Halkett will somehow make it back in time for the final, one of Hearts’ best players this season. John Souttar is expected to return by then, and must play, despite his impending switch to Rangers. Both players playing would give me some confidence. Delighted wee Cammy Devlin is back.

But otherwise, I’m playing down our chances. For Hearts to stand any chance of winning, we’d need Rangers not to play as well as they did yesterday and for Hearts to play much better than we did against Hibs.

But I’m sure we’ll give it a right good go.

1998 was the last time Hearts and Rangers last met in the final. Some iconic names in both line ups, including two future Everton players for Hearts (David Weir and Gary Naysmith) and two future Rangers players (Weir and Neil McCann). Gordon Durie would have a spell at Hearts two years later.

Sadly Walter Smith and Stefano Salvatori are no longer with us.

Neil McCann was a great player. Always thought he was a bit underrated.

….31 years of age now, a terrific striker of a football and never found wanting for leadership & attitude but he’s not the quickest and would be more exposed defensively down here.

Patterson is the better purchase, I have no doubt about that.

Did you see his first goal against Braga? It was a great finish for anyone, never mind a RB.

Neil McCann was a great player. Always thought he was a bit underrated.

His performance for Hearts v Rangers in the 1996 Coca Cola Cup final is fondly remembered to this day.

But it was during this match below that McCann caught the eye of future Rangers boss, Dick Advocaat.
