You’ll struggle to find players less controversial than Niall McGinn, and Paddy McCourt. Both players were sent bullets through the post.

Lennon played, and managed, in England for around 14 years, or so, with no controversy whatsoever. The only people who attacked him in that time was Alan Shearer when he kicked him in the head. Lennon was OK with the Northern Ireland fans, until he signed for Celtic, the booing, by his own fans, started then he received threats, then attack's in the street, and was sent bombs, and bullets, in the post.

He does gesture to the crowd, same as Jose Mourinho does, and the same as Kris Boyle did yesterday. No one thinks of attacking them. Lennon is only in danger in two countries, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Those two countries are were the Orange Order are most prominent. It’s out and out bigots who attack, and threaten, Neil Lennon. Others try to justify it with claims he gestures to the crowd, or is aggressive, and, incredibly, he has ginger hair, because the truth is unpalatable. The truth is, despite the fact it’s getting better, Scotland has a problem with anti-Catholic bigotry, and anti-Irish racism.

I can’t be clearer than my opinion that anybody who throws stuff or attacks a manager can’t be defended , it’s outrageous and cannot be justified. However if a Liverpool manager gestures like that to Everton fans in the last minute of a derby I wouldn’t be astounded if he got stuff chucked at him , I would absolutely expect him to get a huge amount of abuse from the crowd. Clearly not racist or secretarian or whatever but it’d kick off to pretend it wouldn’t seems to be mad.

( can’t say for certain if the Hearts fan who threw the coin that his him is a bigot, or not, but I can say for certain the people who attacked him in the street, and inside Tynecastle, and the people who sent him bombs, and bullets, through the post definitely were.

I’m not in a position to argue that but you take my point ? I said it earlier in there thread , I understand there may well be undercurrents at play that you’ll have a better understandings of than me but he simply doesn’t help himself . I think of it like If I sit in the away end I can pretty much do that I want if I’m at an away game but if in with the home fans and I behave in the same way I might well get a slap. Doesn’t mean it’s right but I’ll have some responsibility for that and I just think Lennon has to think about how conduct . Again I’m justifying the actions of the people who’ve attacked him just trying to say factors contribute .

Niall Mcginn and The Derry Pele are NI legends. Who sent them bullets?

Mcginn is a legend after that goal at the Euros. I've never seen scenes like it in my life.

I think racially he would be .
Not being smart here but race isn't just about colour and I for one would call him a German fokker.

The ni fans loved paddy mccourt, and whoever sent bullets to him, niall mcginn and neil lennon are out of touch with the vast majority of people

Mate it's like you're p*ssing into the wind with some on here, I know exactly where you're coming from and tried to make the very same point on here earlier.

We know the world of football is not perfect when it come to racism, religious bigitory, homophobia, sexism and any other ism that anyone would like to mention.
We know that 99% of us that go to games would not for even a moment consider hurling coins or attack any opposition player or member of staff for any reason whatsoever, however...

The 1% neanderthal fanbase that every club has lies in wait for an opportune moment to in their eyes 'legitamise' their own thoughts and behavior, and lets remember behavior breeds behavior, I myself am a Catholic married to a protestant so I'm not coming into this from a religious or bigoted angle but I firmly believe that Lennon has a responsibility as a football manager of a senior club to conduct himself in a reasonable manner in front of 30,000 people.

Would Evertonians want the manager of this club to conduct themselves in such a childish and unprofessional manner as Lennon did the other night, I think not.

When we were looking for a manager after Martinez, Lennon was being linked, I voiced my opinion of him at that time, whilst I think he is a decent proven manager up in Scotland, his antics even down here would draw unwanted attention to the club.

In my opinion, Paddy McCourt was born in the wrong era. If he had played in the 50’s and 60’s, when wingers hugged the touch line, and didn’t have to do too much defending, I believe he would have been a superstar for Northern Ireland. As players need to be athletes these days, he was a bit of a luxury, but what a footballer,

Your 100% right, great footballer but not a super athlete which is a lot more important now
