Even if it turns, Rangers are too busy trying to find a quick fix when one doesn't exist

They need a long term plan and they need to let a manager actually carry that plan out

Sacking managers every season because Celtic keep winning the league is a recipe for disaster

They need to swallow their pride and let Celtic win a couple more whilst they rebuild

Accept Celtic are getting 9 but plan to have the club ready to challenge when they go for the 10

The board will never do that though and the fans wouldn't accept it either. The board are too afraid to tell some home truths and the Rangers support are too blinkered to accept those truths anyway

I think a big chance was missed when they were dropped down divisions . They could have gone for somebody with a vision and used those seasons to bed in youngsters and let them grow whilst giving them regular football . Instead they seemed tied to paying more than anybody else around them and went through Mccoist , mcdowell , McCall before settling on Warbuton . The running of the club during thar period was exactly what wasn’t needed .

Even now as you say they should have a structure and a plan but appointing a rookie manager, with no tie to the club , to run a club with a hotpotch of players appointed by a host of managers seems completely the opposite of what they need.

Exactly

It utterly baffled me to see McCoist signing all those journeymen, when they had a great chance to blood young players and create a genuine culture and ethos at the club

I'm surprised old Alistair gets so much of a pass from the Rangers faithful tbh. His reign as manager was an absolute disaster and then he sat on gardening leave for months draining the club of even more money

There's "not walking away" and "milking the club you supposedly love because you've got an axe to grind with the hierarchy" and he definitely slipped into the latter category IMO

The ones I’ve spoken to aren’t fans of him at all but some do try , understandably, to split his playing and management careers .

I have to agree with you on all that mate. Celtic are prone to the occasional brain flatulence though, they are lucky to have Brodge and he has been very canny in the market over all and building a young squad rather then journey men from England and the best of the rest in the SPL. How long he will stay there without someone coming in for him down south will be key. Also much depends on the CL in my opinion in staying ahead in the revenue stakes, domestic success is important but hitting the group stages of the Champions League is critical to the drive for ten and keeping the current status quo.

One title win for Rangers will make a difference in my opinion, once its showing green shoots and they show an ability to qualify for the CL i wouldn't be surprised in an Angel investor came in. Thankfully the current board just seem bereft of clear strategy or even a decision in the long term. i have a suspicion the Gerrard appointment is to cozy up to Liverpool for loans and attract other players to them as a draw other then fees or wages.

I think there's a lot of sense in this post. I've never had much time for Rangers but they are a massive club who have been awfully run. Going to the 3rd division was a big opportunity to restart and build a club back in the exact image of what they'd like it to be. It kind of made sense what they were doing re Mccoist but he proved massively out of his depth.

Whats always amazed me with Glasgow (both teams) if you have an area that is a lot bigger in size than both Liverpool and Manchester (possibly as big as both combined) in an a working class city that is just as keen on football as them, yet so few players are really produced.

You list off, even in the last 25 years how many footballers have been produced from Liverpool and Manchester, Giggs, Scholes, Nevilles, Butt, Barton, Rooney, Carragher, Fowler, Owen, Barkley, Mcmanaman and you don't seem to have the same sort of list for Glasgow. If I were Rangers I'd have put a huge amount of money into that.

I think Celtic have grasped what is needed much more. It's a regional league next to the biggest sports Franchise in the world and it tries to move players to that league, for decent money to help fund the business. It also sees itself with as much in common with the Scandinavian leagues (hence the Ronny D appointment). At the moment Rangers seem to be taking cast offs from poor championship sides. It's sad to see a proud club operating in that way.

It can change in an instant mate, there will be a bit of turnover at Celtic in that time and a couple of bad decsions and you loose momentum, your one Ronny Delia season away from the current canter.

Gerrard is an awful appointment in my opinion but i will enjoy his demise, looking at what Rangers motivation may be here, i am sure he will be a draw in recruitment but they have limits financially, but maybe a feeder club for Liverpool with a few loans heading north of the border.

He will get eaten up and spat out in Glasgow, someone who has stayed and been glorified at one club for almost all is his career has no idea what he is walking in to, its going to be fun.
The big turnover will happen when Brenda leaves? which if they beat Motherwell to get a double treble ,he possibly might .
Unfortunately celtic and rangers fans I fancy the steelmen to snatch it

Outside the premiership Cove Rangers have dumped Spartans 6-1 over two legs to play off against Cowdenbeath over two legs to gain entry into division 2
Cowdenbeath won't roll over
It'll be a hard game
Be suprised if there is only 1 red card
East Stirlingshire found out its hard to get back into the top leagues once dropping out
Hopefully it'll be on bbc alba for you purists

He could, Scot brown will be 36 if Celtic were to do 10, you wouldn’t fall over with surprise if Tierney or Dembele moved, there is a fair bit of quality in the squad on loan as well in Roberts and Edouard.

Well I’ve never considered myself a purist , but I’ll be looking out for the game. More of “going back to my routes” than purist. Steak pie, bovril, standing on the terrace watching Highland League football with mates, has often been more attractive this season than trying to find a dodgy feed of us away to WBA or whomever , even in freezing winter conditions.
Cowdenbeath were lucky to scrape through last year, I expect Cove to put them to the sword over two legs, theyre a very attractive attacking team on their day. Generally , the top four Highland League sides are better than the top four Lowland League, but the bottom four Highland League are far worse than bottom four Lowland. Hence why Cove and 3 or 4 others score 100+ goals, the bottom four let in 100+. It’s been a long season for Cove though with their good runs in various cups and postponed fixtures but they should be able to raise their game two more times.
