2017/18 Sandro Ramirez

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has decided to keep peripheral figures Sandro Ramirez and James McCarthy at Goodison Park until the end of the season after the pair having impressed him during a friendly match held at Finch Farm earlier this week.

Sandro and McCarthy have both been peripheral figures for the Toffees this season, with the latter only featuring once having struggled with knee and hamstring injuries. Sandro, who was introduced by Allardyce as a late substitute during the Toffees' 3-1 win over Swansea City on Monday (18 December), is said to have designs on a return to Spain, with Malaga manager Michel Gonzalez recently suggesting that he wishes to go back to La Rosaleda.

But Allardyce, who recently confirmed that signing a striker is his top priority during the January transfer window, is not prepared to let the former Barcelona youth graduate or McCarthy leave Everton just yet, according to the Daily Mail.

The former England manager is currently dealing with a squad that is vastly overloaded in some areas of the pitch but inexplicably scarce in others. Central midfield is a position that boasts depth and quality, but Allardyce sees value in keeping McCarthy at Everton and out of the clutches of his old club Crystal Palace, who have been interested in the Irishman for the past 18 months.

Sandro faces less competition than McCarthy for a place in Everton's starting line-up, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Wayne Rooney and Oumar Niasse the only recognised strikers available to Allardyce. The Spaniard began the season in the Toffees' first eleven but has not started a Premier League match for the Merseysiders since September, with his only start since the 3-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur coming in the 5-1 mauling by Atalanta in the Europa League last month.

Both Sandro and McCarthy are fit and available for the visit of Chelsea on Saturday (23 December), and the pair will no doubt hope to be afforded opportunities to prove their worth during the gruelling festive period, with Allardyce et al finalising their plans for the January window.

Sandro appears to be impressing in training, so it's quite possible he'll come good in the end and make a lot of people look very silly.

At the price we paid for him he was well worth a punt. Even if it doesn't work out, we're not going to take much of a hit ( if any ) on what we paid for him, so the only financial hit would be what we paid him in wages.

I am really suprised how bad Sandro has been.

I saw a lot of him ( via TV admitedly ) in La Liga and thought he would be a great signing.

He showed great workrate , control , directness and an eye for goal.

He has displayed none of that at Everton.

I can accept it takes time for a foreign player to adjust to the English game but can someone explain why he keeps falling over ( when not even challenged )

His shoelaces are tied together?

Sounds like Allardyce doesn't like him. No surprise. Get this headless chicken out of here. Doubt we'll lose money on him.

Unfortunately can't see him ever fitting in here while we play such dross. Spaniards aren't suited to hoofs

Problem is, even when he has the ball at feet he looks like he wants to do 5 different things and then get's caught out and loses it

no way should we be selling him too early. Give him until next jan at least, his value is at an all time low, so i don't see the point. The same goes to klaassen and besic. I don't think besic is going to make it anymore, so he should be loaned out to one of the lesser prem teams to try and drive his price up and then offload him for about £10m in the summer. Klaassen and sandro need to be sent out to get used to the prem imo.

Either that, or we accept that we're not actually going anywhere this season anyway so chuck them in our team and give them an extended run. At least we can do that for the last few months when we're only going to finish 7th or 8th anyway?

Interview on Sky there
BFS saying Sandro needs to stop huffing.
Get his act together etc

Trying to hard to make an impact which is having an adverse effect on his game plus not helped with lack of quality of our midfield play especially since BFS took over...there is a good player in him, just need better service and continuity to show his class.

How do you know he’s impressing in training ?
