Assuming he is on 120k a week for five years, that is over 30 million - that isn't a heck of a deal really is it ? It seems a bit desperate and bad mathematics, if true. I suppose the advantage is that the 5m was up front and the rest can be spread payments - but its still a lot.

I have no idea how much the lad is on. Assuming it's as much as quote, then yes, his wages are pretty astronomical as he hasn't returned any value thus far.

However, you could calculate a player's speculated wage packet and extrapolate it over the length of their contract to make any transfer look extortionate. Liverpool signed Coutinho for £8m, an absolute bargain, but they were paying him over £200k by most accounts by the time he left.

I think the Coutinho example is also quite relevant to Sandro as both cost low fees, both didn't cut it at major European clubs and were moved on (Coutinho spent time on loan at Espanol) before both clubs bought the players respectively.

Their gamble payed off (in an enormous way) and ours didn't. That's football unfortunately. We took a gamble on a really highly rated player, I wont criticise the club for moves like this as the are a display of ambition with the future in mind. It just wasn't to be this time (assuming he does move on this summer).

So we keep all 38 just in case?? No thanks. The problem is, if we give Davy,Sandro, Besic,cuco, wiliams, VLasic, Schneids another "chance" if it don't pull off we are going to be very weak until at east January. New team, new players imo.

Keep the current 35 until the manager has a chance to see them in the system he's going to play and not a bus parking extraordinaire, yes. Then sort out the wheat and chaff.

I think it's massively harsh on Vlasic to count him as a disappointment as well.

Also, two of those players are 23 and 20 respectively.

Personally I'd keep hold of all three of them for pre-season. If they don't cut it under Silva, then fine. But we need to know.

The likes of Mori, Martina, Williams, Mirallas - we know they aren't good enough. Mori proved easy enough to shift because he's a good age and wages wise wasn't on loads. Martina is tosh so will be more difficult. Mirallas and Williams are the issue.

Silva has already said Schneiderlin will be given a chance. If he thinks he can get the player out of him that was here in early 2017, then it's a good move. It is a risk though so the decision will have to be made quickly.

Silva likes to play with three forwards. I think he might give Sandro a go there. If he can't cut it he'll be out of the door (should an offer come in) though.

Of course we don't, I'm sure offers will come in for some that's are to good to refuse and will be accepted. We're one day through pre-season. We've got a new manager and director of football. The window won't close for another six weeks and even after the Premier League window closes we have another two weeks to sell players.

Especially when we're discussing a bloke who is 22yo and has shown some good talent as a youngster. We'd be crazy not to give him a proper chance.

...I think he’d like a top drawer striker too with mobility and pace. Tosun is a finisher but not a handful, having real threat would be a great asset.

For sure we have to take gambles and this one hasn't paid off so far. My general point is that a focus on transfer fees as part of the overall deal is increasingly misleading as to the value of that deal.

I honestly don't know what Klaassen has showed to suggest he's worth another chance. Obviously if Silva rates him then great, but to suggest that he just 'deserves' another chance seems weird to me, seeing as he contributed absolutely nothing whatsoever over the course of an entire season.

Sandro didn't do anything either, but at least he's a little bit younger and had more of a cultural change to contend with.
