There are and there will be because there's a bigger than usual number of teams still in danger. A win here and there and positons drastically change.
We're by no means out of it yet and our tendancy to put in performances like yesterday immediately gets you worried. The fact we already have 31 points is massive in the overall picture though. If we get to 40 points (3 wins or 2 wins/3 draws) it means a team from the bottom 3 has to get 17 points. Thats 5 wins/2 draws or 6 wins out of 12 games. A tall order. It has been done before I suppose but also there are many other teams between us and 18th place. I don't see it happening, but I do think we'll end up in the bottom half (probably about 12th or 13th).
If we finish 8th or 9th that just ridiculous considering some of the beatings we've taken.
Indeed, Stu.
There are four teams on 24 points, which includes the 18th placed team.
Four wins four draws would take any of them to 40 points.
The key thing is, as you say, there are so many of them and they will all be playing each other and are well capable of beating enough of the teams in the bottom half to scramble toward that tally.
Add to that any and all of them are capable of beating EFC, Bornemouth, Foxes and Burnley from the top half.
And as Swansea in particular have shown, these teams are way more capable of taking sommat from the “big teams” than we are so that is another disadvantage we are at.
Now....in all probability this will not happen because we are starting to run out of matches.
But the 18th team finishing on 40 points is not an impossibility in this weird season.
