Sam Allardyce appreciation thread

I don't mind Big Sam. He obviously knew he'd never be a top Manager, so he's got as much as he can from being a 'salvage expert', so to speak.

As for him knowing he was getting sacked two months prior to it happening. He knew when he was appointed in November that he'd be gone in May. He was offered a 6-month deal, so he knew he wasn't wanted beyond that. He negotiated an 18-month deal knowing he'd be gone in six no matter what... but this way he'd get a nice payoff, instead of just receiving a handshake and being shown the door (like Moyes at West Ham?).

He may serve up crap football, but he's no idiot when it comes to playing the system and lining his pockets.

This. Hence why his media profile has suddenly increased again to go along with the start of the new season because he is skulking around waiting for the first person to be sacked. The only thing is, Allardyce has been forced out by the fans at a few clubs now due to his negative approach, add that onto his sheer greed that led to him being sacked by the national team, he is not a very popular person among football fans in general. The game has also changed in terms of style and tactics and so on and i think he may struggle to find another top flight club, even one that is struggling tbh. I did laugh this morning though listening to him on talksh*te and having a proper go at Arsenals new manager and his tactics against city. It almost made me want to ring up and ask him if he would like to tell the listeners what he has won compared to Emery's 3 Europa Leagues.
Sam The same guy - who compared himself to Simonelollol

he didn't though did he

football is as much about entertainment as it is about results, he failed quite spectaculary in that regards and the results weren't anything above ordinary, we beat teams we should be beating ( especially with the players we bought in Jan and coleman coming back ) and then bent over for the bigger teams

tell me im wrong I dare you
You're wrong.

We were heading for relegation and Sam came in to stop that. A necessary sacrifice.

IMO Craig Shakespeare could have done a better job .... for far less...... just to steady the ship the tie away with the kids in the Europa was the best football in that awful era he was in charge - Sam was ill
Was also in a game that quite literally meant nothing for us because we'd already been knocked out though. Pressure was off.

I've never said Sam is a world beater, or the right man for Everton, or the man to take us forward - but he managed to do exactly what he was brought in for and made some good sensible signings.

It was a brand of football miles away from Sam's philosophy of just hoof it - Shakespeare had a decent spell in charge of Leicester - it was the same team who gained a point at goodison v our first team....... - the football was the best performance in his era ...........
If Sam is that good why is he not working now in the capacity of a Manager - he is a mercenary- end of!

I genuinely thought he would grasp the opportunity at a personal level to show what he could do at a side with the rich history and higher ambition that Everton is. I never thought he was a long-term answer but I did think he would at least attempt to put Farhad in a position where he would consider an extension to his stay, with some good results, and good football. We got the former, the football was horrific on a colossal scale.

But it turned out as we know, that his philosophy and methods were so outdated and unsuitable, and he seemed both unable and unwilling to be capable of anything other than a totally risk-averse, salvage operation.

I have nothing against him personally, and he did contribute 'something' in terms of stabilising us as a time, when, after the Southampton game, nerves were extremely frayed.

He was handsomely compensated I'm sure so good for him, and good for us he left.

One which gets the job done. He recognised our defence was utterly dreadful and accounted for it.

He was retired tbf and the size of Everton, and the ridiculous cash, brought him back

It was pathetic if we mustered a shot on target we were lucky away from home ........
I would rather watch a 4-3 defeat than see that style football again - Sam was a clogger of a player too - and it showed it was DIRE!
Unsworth had the best performance of the season by the way his last game.......v West Ham .......

I think Sam had a big effect on that game, Unsworth was well out of his depths before that. Regardless, that's just my opinion on that game.

I see people saying they'd rather lose 4-3 etc which again cool that's your opinion, but people weren't saying that when we had Martinez doing exactly that.

For the record going to the game last season sucked under all of 3 managers who partook
