I think we will see quite a few young players emerge from the SPL over the next few years. As can be seen from the way James McCarthy has developed their is no substitute for developing players than playing matches. Martinez has spoken about how important the amount of games James' has played since 16 and the experience he has gained from it. With the money drying up in Scottish football more and more clubs are turning to the development of their own young players rather than imported foreign talent. More young players 16-18 are getting games playing mens football now, compared to lads of similar age in England who are mostly playing for academy sides at this age.

Just look at McCarthy and you'd know what Martinez can do with a youngster from the SPL.
I think Gauld and Souttar would be good signings for us, right now they wouldnt make an immediate impact, so if we did get them, id like them to either be loaned straight back to Dundee or elsewhere.

These, really. You can see the lad is an intelligent player. He benefits from playing in a league where he has a lot more time and space, but to do as well as he has considering he's only recently turned 18 is an indication he might be able to step up. I've seen him twice for Dundee (Utd) this season - I don't think they were his best games but it was evident he's an intelligent player who reads the game well.

Everything Martinez has said and done indicates he's keen to train and develop young players into a certain system or style of playing. As said above, it's evident in McCarthy, a player who's not just technically gifted but is also very aware of the requirements of his role.

There's every chance we won't sign him, of course, but I wouldn't think the league he happens to play in as the best or only way to judge his worth and potential.

I seem to remember a lot of 'underwhelmed' comments when we signed John Stones, we need to be in the market for good young talent.

That said, it would be inexcusable if that was our only business given the position we are in.

What position is that? We should have a fair budget and be looking to invest to give the squad and Roberto the best chance of a top 4 finish and good cup run.

The negative outlook and excuses went out with the last management regime. If the current board don't get withy the program they will be next.

Solo El Mejor.

i shared a house with a dundee supporter, i once asked him how dundee utd where getting on, he went a bit mental and was going on about us not being arabs or something, from then onwards i always asked him how 'utd' were getting on

he was a massive fool

I play the same game with "Notts Forest" fans. They go mental!

Not a fan of midget footballers, he's too small for the prem.

id give my left nut to have a clone of this man .... small and he would demolish the prem.

I respect and believe in Roberto's judgment in these matters. To ensure our future we need young players coming through so that are clear prospects for us but that depends on cost.
