We've already had the Scottish Rooney on our books, the Scottish Socrates currently sitting on our bench and now supposedly want the Scottish Messi?

Yeah, we have to get it right once I guess.

We also have the Scotch tape in the physio box mate, its used to glue gibson back together as hes the irish xavi ;p

Jock, realistically, how much would this kid cost?

The figures being quoted are £6m. There's no way that would be an up front bid. I reckon around £2-3m up front with significant add ons would be accepted, especially with a loan back til the end of the season.

Then I'd be looking at loaning him to a Championship side for a season.

So let's not give young lads with potential a chance and wait till they mature, cost 20M and then we can't afford them?

It's Dundee United. Dundee are a completely separate entity.

i shared a house with a dundee supporter, i once asked him how dundee utd where getting on, he went a bit mental and was going on about us not being arabs or something, from then onwards i always asked him how 'utd' were getting on

he was a massive fool

Most Dundee fans are

I seem to remember a lot of 'underwhelmed' comments when we signed John Stones, we need to be in the market for good young talent.

That said, it would be inexcusable if that was our only business given the position we are in.

On SSN transfer centre

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara has no concerns over speculation regarding the future of any of his players. Ryan Gauld, Stuart Armstrong, Gary Mackay-Steven and John Souttar have all been earning praise, particularly during the team's unbeaten six-match run towards the end of last year. Everton boss Roberto Martinez was at Tannadice on Sunday to see United come from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with in-form Hibernian.

I watched that video clip last night, he played some great balls in behind the defence, which is an art form in itself.

I get that some people are ****ging the SPL off too, but that should not come into it. With that kind of ability and a coach / manager like Martinez behind him, this kid could go places.

Martinez likes the scottish league, Gauld looks like he could be a brilliant player. People are stupidly dismissive of these leagues but you get more young players who end up making it from the likes of these leagues, than the foreign lads who cost twice the price.

Though this only seems to happen at the youth level, it's reverse at aged 25 plus.

I think we will see quite a few young players emerge from the SPL over the next few years. As can be seen from the way James McCarthy has developed their is no substitute for developing players than playing matches. Martinez has spoken about how important the amount of games James' has played since 16 and the experience he has gained from it. With the money drying up in Scottish football more and more clubs are turning to the development of their own young players rather than imported foreign talent. More young players 16-18 are getting games playing mens football now, compared to lads of similar age in England who are mostly playing for academy sides at this age.

Just look at McCarthy and you'd know what Martinez can do with a youngster from the SPL.
I think Gauld and Souttar would be good signings for us, right now they wouldnt make an immediate impact, so if we did get them, id like them to either be loaned straight back to Dundee or elsewhere.
