heheh it was originally written up in the 20's or 30's, I think in a tome about the importance of clear communication, and has done the rounds ever since, surfacing with different ships and lighthouses in each incarnation. It was still good to poke the USN with up to a couple of years back though, because so few bothered to check it's provenance... sadly, the 'net is starting to put paid to that... pesky geeks

You do?

You know.

Our Navy would be a lot better if we upgraded our submarine personnel.

Just my two cents on the subject.

:P

I've just been talking to someone I know who's a retired Royal Navy captain.

He says you Yanks are notorious for swamping the seas with unnecessary radio traffic....
You can hear the Yanks coming far far off before you see em.

Seems you Yanks like to talk.... and talk and talk and talk

Oh and blow things up of course

get anywhere near Pristina Gaz? At one point seemed to spend all me time pinging back and to Trenchard Lines.

Past through there mate. was that on route Bluebird.

Tomislavigrad (TSG) was an interesting place. It was the place that had the armoured vehicle outside. the one where they put plate armour onto a coach to moves troops around, yet the dumb asses forgot to leave a whole for the fuel cap and it ran out of fuel and they all got shelled to [Poor language removed].

Why not fill the airwaves. It is hard to hide a carrier in todays tech age. The ones you really should be scared of are the submarines. It scares people with only the possibility a fast attack is loitering near them. We really are the [Poor language removed]. Best submarines, best crews, best training. I think the one thing the UK used to have on us was the Perisher course but we have captured the best elements of that for ourselves.

Submarines are ace. Surface ships are targets. Remember that.

Thanks for that.

I'll remember that the next time I'm on Royal Carribbean.

DEBKAfile’s military sources note that the arrival of the three new American flotillas will raise to five the number of US strike forces in Middle East waters – an unprecedented build-up since the crisis erupted over Iran’s nuclear program.
This vast naval and air strength consists of more than 40 carriers, warships and submarines, some of the last nuclear-armed, opposite the Islamic Republic, a concentration last seen just before the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Our military sources postulate five objects of this show of American muscle:
1. The US, aided also by France, Britain and Canada, is finalizing preparations for a partial naval blockade to deny Iran imports of benzene and other refined oil products. This action would indicate that the Bush administration had thrown in the towel on stiff United Nations sanctions and decided to take matters in its own hands.
2. Iran, which imports 40 percent of its refined fuel products from Gulf neighbors, will retaliate for the embargo by shutting the Strait of Hormuz oil route chokepoint, in which case the US naval and air force stand ready to reopen the Strait and fight back any Iranian attempt to break through the blockade.
3. Washington is deploying forces as back-up for a possible Israeli military attack on Iran’s nuclear installations.
4. A potential rush of events in which a US-led blockade, Israeli attack and Iranian reprisals pile up in a very short time and precipitate a major military crisis.
5. While a massive deployment of this nature calls for long planning, its occurrence at this time cannot be divorced from the flare-up of the Caucasian war between Russia and Georgia. While Russia has strengthened its stake in Caspian oil resources by its overwhelming military intervention against Georgia, the Americans are investing might in defending the primary Persian Gulf oil sources of the West and the Far East.
DEBKAfile’s military sources name the three US strike forces en route to the Gulf as the USS Theodore Roosevelt , the USS Ronald Reagan and the USS Iwo Jima . Already in place are the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea opposite Iranian shores and the USS Peleliu which is cruising in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Give me a break!!! That is so full of inaccurate information I could weep.

We have 9 Nimitz class carriers, with 1 being built. Where does the 40 number come from???

The only submarines that carry nuclear weapons now are Ballistic missile subs, which maintain a blue water nuclear deterrence. They are second strike weapons for deterrence, not aggression. We no longer arm fast-attack submarines with nuclear tipped tomahawks. We are bound to the START II treaties with Russia, which allows them to inspect and count warheads of their choice. We do the same to them.

Another massive flaw with that is the part involving France. Those bastards have opposed just about everything the US have done, especially concerning the middle east, so why would they now be planning secret invasions with us.

We, the US, have always maintained a massive naval presence in the gulf as it is vital to us and the rest of the world to keep sea-lanes free and open.

As for the 5 flotillas, the USS Peleliuwill be relieved by the Iwo Jima and the Reagan or Roosevelt will relieve the Lincoln.

If we were readying an invasion, there would likely be a build up in Iraq or Turkey, so the Army would be ready to releive the Marines who would land from the Amphibs. Now I do realise the Marine divisions coming in from the Amphibs are designed to be self-sufficient for 1 month, but that is a design for a wolrd wide engagement where the US is engaged on several fronts.

Is the navy just like the movie Down Periscope?

I watched that the other night the highlight being Lauren Holly in that uniform.
