*Rumour* Nike the maker of next years kits?

I quite like that actually.

We used the away kit at the beginning of the 1960s and also wore it as an away strip when we won the league in 1969-70 and the Charity shield at the beginning of the following season. The kit was used for at least 8 seasons between 1961 and 1975.

So yes, it is false to say it has no history. You not only got the dates it was used wrong, but also missed out the fact that we won the league wearing it:

Totally meaningless kit.

You're confusing the 'mustard' away strip of 1960/61 with the later amber kit worn in the late '60s to mid-'70s. One Championship season wearing it as opposed to two in lemon and the little matter of a cup and ECWC success. Let the people decide.

The overall point is this: Everton's traditional away kit almost from the year dot was always white shirts/dark shorts....and it's cropped up on recent occasions too. The amber one was a late-comer and has largely disappointing association.

The fact remains that Everton played some of their best ever football wearing the amber away kit, to say it has no history is absurd. That's all.

I never said it didn't have history, I said it had negative associations...unlike our largely all-conquering lemon kit.

For years the club have traded (literally) on the blue, white and yellow corporate colours. The lame attempts at reintroducing salmon or amber have been unwelcome, as far as I'm concerned. If it isn't broke dont fix it. That said, the blue, white and black combo of the mid-90s was very nice indeed. If they have to tinker around with our identity at least try and do it right.

Lemon is a beast of an away kit, with the royal blue Hafnia and NEC sponsor in the middle, GET IT BACK. Amber for me reeks of Jeff Astle.

If you go through the kits on their twitter page you can see that Nike have different kits for each team for the coming season, so i expect it to be the same for Everton

Definitely for the bigger clubs and international sides. But not for Nike's lesser sides. Do Nike consider Everton a good enough brand to not give us a template? I fear we may just be a catalogue filler for them.

A quote from the press release about the Nike deal, "Along with the exclusively designed kits for the 2012/13 campaign, Nike will also produce the Club’s official training wear and a Nike Pro Combat range.

"exclusively designed" could just mean that Nike will be the only authorized manufacturer of kits. This seems like an obvious statement, but it's the type of puffery commonly used in marketing and press releases.

While were at it...I know sponsorship deals bring money in, but wouldn't it be nice if Uefa - with all their hand-wringing, meddlesome ways that usually get sod all achieved anyway - decided that club's shirts are the flags of their community and banned them being besmirched with ads for ale, online betting, mobile phones and all the other spiv shit? If they did that they'd be tolerated a bit more. Imagine all those shirts posted above without those stupid ****ing elephants and scrawl on them. They should be a thing of beauty and tradition...it's amazing how we now take for granted the commercial vomit all over them.
