I don't know if it has been mentioned but it was nice to see our old pal Joe Royle back in management, and a return to his old stomping ground of Boundary Park with Oldham Athletic.
Royle cut his teeth in management with the Latics way back in '82 and spent an amazing twelve years with the club, as Oldham surprised all by reaching a League Cup final and two wembley FA cup semi-finals towards the end of his tenure with the club. Only a Mark Hughes goal in the dying seconds denied his Latics team a place in the final against Chelsea. Their supporters must have been mortified when it happened.
Of course, Royle will always be associated with Everton as one of the great players we had in the mid to late 60's before he left for Maine Road in 1974, as Bob Latchford was signed from Birmingham.
I wish him every success back at Boundary Park, and until last year was the last English manager to win the FA cup, but with all respect to Oldham, for me he will always be remembered as an Evertonian.
Good luck Joe.
