Monster, you've got a point like.

I just dont see it mate. I use the train for the match and theyre not that bad if Im being honest. You could have a train every eight minutes into Kirkby on matchday on the current track set up but theres no way of ascertaining who many will travel by train.

The current track set up will allow trains of up to a maximum of 5 per hour (12.5mins), an official from Merseyrail told me..

The map above is a quick demonstration of why.

I'm crap at explaining things but I'll have a go anyway. The green on the rail track indicates that there is only one physical rail track there. Before and after that the rail merges/splits into two rail tracks.

Look at this pic to see what I mean, this is Kirkby station - the station nearest to the proposal:

My map doesn't have a break in the green on the track, but the two lines (Liverool & Manchester/Wigan) aren't connected.

So to make it viable for more trains per hour, National Rail would need to build a second track for the 3 miles or so and either rebuild or strengthen two bridges (one over the canal and the other over a motorway)

As GJB said; National Rail have said that it would be too expensive for the amount of usage it will receive (once per fortnight).

I think it's quicker than 12 minutes isnt it Lou? The train is every 15 minutes now and it sits at Kirkby for beards - or until someone comes running down the steps too quick.

Make the door beeps happen, make the door beeps happen.

I'm casual as you like if the trains waiting, no rushing or nothing. If it goes I dont even looked arsed.

What were we talking about?

Imagine being crammed like sardines on that platform after the match ? Carnage . If we move to Kirkby I am emigrating to Sweden . FACT .

The train from Liverpool stays at the station for 5 minutes. I've just had a quick scan at MerseyRail site to make sure I answer you correctly. In theory, if the train just pulls up and leaves without letting anyone off or on then you could get 6 per hour in there.

But because the train will need time to travel along the single track those trains will crash when the train in front comes to turn around from Kirkby station.

Arrives at Kirkby from Central at 23:13, Departs Kirkby for return journey at 23:18.

The train crashing is a bad thing. Im sure its literally two minutes down the track, before Fazakerley where the double line starts/ends though mate, so Im not convinced of the crash scenario as it would take 4/5 minutes for a return journey and 4/5 minutes to load up/off.

Extra carriages will help for the match I reckon.

They'd build a bigger platform, they'd build two more platforms and give out free bottles of Tizer.

They're not building any new platforms or giving away any tizer.. they're widening the existing one.. and letting through a limited number of people at a time. I'm not even sure if they're providing toilets - they're providing portable ones at the bus stop.

Aintree at station at the Grand National was used as an example of how to control fans at the station:

What are the bogs like at Goodison & Kirkdale? Have you seen the congestion around Goodison after a match mate?

Ive got the train to town after the National a few times in recent years and despite a small wait I thought they handled it pretty well.

You get some inconveniences, like piss poor facilities and obstructed views.

Lots of obstructed views on here like.
