Ross Barkley

I said before the game, in order to win we needed our Rossley, Lukaku, Mirallas ( was very surprised he wasn't picked ) to be right at it. Unfortunately most of our players were woeful. Our players who have it in them to make a difference didn't....again.

woeful challenge on Lovren, ain't condoning that.

He's been in real good form and today was piss poor and hurts more because it's such an important game. Hopefully he's back at it Tuesday
Tried hard lucky again not to see red - the team formation frustrated him, and us!

of course Joey, but this is where we need the likes of him to keep a cool head and really take the game by the scruff of the neck.

bad day at the office for all concerned mate , same old same old isn't it, we just discuss the same problems every time we play them at their crap hole

Yes it's a jinx ground - like Elland road v Leeds was the same, but we gave them a game - our new Manager set us up wrong today ok we had injuries square pegs in round holes do not work end of!

how many times have we said that as well mate about the square pegs. I know we were depleted with injuries but we had a right back on the bench, Holgate isn't a right back so play him centrally in a back 3.

hindsight there by me so it's easy to call it after the event. Truth is Joey we had enough on that pitch to give them a game but about 7/8 of them game unacceptable performances again.

My older brother stated it was like rabbits in the headlights for us - gave them to much respect as they are not that good fast yes - our defence of Jags - Williams- Baines age wise is over 100 years old!
John jo Kenny at full back, and Holgate in front of the back central defenders would have give us pace!

I mentioned this in the Funes Mori thread that I thought we'd go Kenny rb and Holgate 1 of the 3.

ain't gonna blame Pennington though, tough game and planted one at the Kop end and enjoyed his celebration..Good on him, he knows they are tits like us.

roll on Tuesday mate ;)

Come on. Cahill was what, mid 20s when he joined us and only got to double figures once in the league. Alli is 20 and has done this in both of his seasons. He has 17/18 goals in all competitions this season, I might be wrong but Cahill never got this amount.

Alli is an incredible talent. If ball retention is his biggest problem...well...
Listen I don't think Cahill was better than alli but conversely I also don't think alli would outscore him if Cahill played for spurs

Thought he was poor worst game since Xmas

We still talking Barkley?!

I think he tanked under Martinez and still has to work out what his game is. Does he beat people a la gazza? No. Free kicks? Not really. Tracking back/ Tackling? Poor.

At his best around the box, give n go, shots, setting players up but his stats there aren't compelling.

He's a young lad still though, needs fitness to be at his best and with the exception of defensive work has proven in flashes he's got the potential in the other areas above.

Go on lad, keep improving.

Taken from Andy Walker (Toffeweb discussion)

'An extra special mention for Barkley. I don't think in over 40 years of watching the blues I have ever seen a more frustrating, infuriating, annoying, exasperating, player. Time and time again he gets himself into a good position but then he'll either miscontrol the ball, or instead of playing a quick, incisive, often OBVIOUS pass, he'll stop, turn, turn again, turn back, wait for the opportunity to pass, then loose the ball. He plays like he's the best player in the school on the playground, or an adult playing with the kids saying try and get the ball off me. Thing is Ross, your playing with similarly talented players and they will take the ball off you and do it all the time.'

All these highly paid journalists are summing him up based of yesterday, whilst ignoring his firm this calendar year. At the same time they're loving Coutinho who showed up for the first time in months yesterday. They get paid big money to do that too. Crazy world.
I just hope he regains that form quickly as he looked lost yesterday
