Ross Barkley

I guess RK is setting high standards, and it appears Barkley has felt these high standards.

In McCarthy I believe it was more tactical, as 5 at the back just wasn't working
In Barkley it was him being poor on the night, he won't be the first player it has happened to.
I think he will learn and just maybe he will realise an easy ball can be a good ball, in that I mean I personally believe he try's to hard to impress....he doesn't need to we know he is a class act.

I just hope these high standards are consistent across the team

What would make you even think they would not be mate?

I don't have a gripe with Koeman at all, I was simply challenging Davek because I think he's chatting utter bubbles.
Somehow cocked up in my response mate. I meant to be responding to daveks original post not your response. Somehow my lack of IT skills managed to result in two lots of comments, the first of which (yours) was absolute tosh. Noticed it and edited now (I think)

100% concur with your post by the way;)

Great move by Koeman, Slate a young lad in public when his confidence is rock bottom

Can see why Valencia players turned on him tbh and makes you wonder if the story about Southampton players not liking is true

The players not liking him at Soton were players he dropped. As a boss its your job to get the best out of teams and that means telling some home truths and dropping under performing players. A boss has to do what is best for the club and not leave under performing players playing because they may be sensitive and get upset.
As someone earlier said.. this is getting blown out of proportion and people are making mountains out of mole hills....why?

I think the issue with Ross, and indeed the McCarthy substitution at Baggies, is more to do with the timing of the subbing rather than the fact of it.

If both those subs had occurred around the hour mark there wouldn't have been a word about it.

It most definitely reflects more badly on a player's performance happen he is hooked before the second half even starts....though in McCarthy's case the subbing was more about Ronald correcting his own mistake vis a vis the starting formation, as he admitted himself afterwards.

But in both cases the manager's decision was totally vindicated by the improvement on the pitch after both substitutions.

Regarding the difference in reaction on here to Ronald publicly calling Ross for his display at Sunlun and Bobby having a go at Baines, the answer there is glaringly obvious.

It's about the results, stupid.

If we had been playing well and winning and Bobby had slated Baines for sommat he said we would all have stood by Bobby and criticised Leighton.

Alternatively, if we had endured a torrid start to the season and Ronald had singled out Ross on the back of a bad opening run of results, we would be lambasting him for pointing the finger of blame at the players rather than accept any blame himself.

To quote our lost leader.....it is "small margins" that make the difference :)

Anyway.....I fully expect to see Ross start tomorrow with either Kev on the bench or if he himself starts, Del held in reserve again ;)

What Mane said.
Koeman is also a great manager and he’s a nice person. When he was at Southampton, everybody liked him at the club. It was easy for the young players, for us and for me personally because he helped me a lot and if I’m here today, some of it is because of him. He gave me many chances and I’m happy for that.

It's not benching him or even dropping him that's the questionable part of all this. If Koeman is the manager then he has every right to make those choices. It's the grandstanding to the media over it that's a sticking point for me. There was no need for it whatsoever. If I was a player and he did that I'd think he'd betrayed me.

Moyes did it with Richard Wright and Mirallas. Martinez did it with Baines. Are we to say that just because Koeman is new and has seen an unbeaten run in four games that we ease off criticising him?

I think that until Moshiri stepped in Barklay was 2nd or 3rd in the selling cycle to fund Kenwrights businesses. Its always been that way, normally they get sold and the players stock plummets as its a media Everton led `next rooney` marketing sales campaign

Perhaps Barklay is just not as good as we thought and we also believed the hype, I sincerely hope Im wrong

The fact is now if a player is not performing he can be hauled off, which is good for the club, I do not think we should criticise Koeman for making what turns out to be the right decisions
We dont know what was said behind closed doors Koeman may have been constructive in what he said its up to Barklay to raise his game I would not feel betrayed I would want to prove myself and play 90 minutes every week, its debatable if Barklay has the right mental attitude to do this either way the team cannot carry him wins are wins Koeman is a winner Martinez was a loser simples
