Ihaters
Player Valuation: £35m
NoI think the point is more along the lines of:
Should Ron have publicly dressed down Ross?
By doing so has he destroyed his career and alienated the fanbase / squad?

Exactly his form is shot. why humiliate even more. The Koeman bashers may like to consider that the manager may have pulled off a master stroke by hooking him to save him from further ridicule.
I fear Ross isn't the player Koeman wants in the no.10 role. I don't think Barkley has the mentality to play the way the manager wants him to in regards of defending as a unit and tracking back, I think Barkley has a season to prove himself.
About Koeman telling the press he wasn't good enough is neither right or wrong, it depends on how Ross takes it. If it was me and I heard my manager talking about me like that I would be disappointed and feel embarrassed. I also think it would affect my performance negatively. That's just me, how about Ross?

Oh God, no, that's a TERRIBLE idea
Have we learnt NOTHING from the days of the Martinez Cult?!?!
It's not benching him or even dropping him that's the questionable part of all this. If Koeman is the manager then he has every right to make those choices. It's the grandstanding to the media over it that's a sticking point for me. There was no need for it whatsoever. If I was a player and he did that I'd think he'd betrayed me.
Moyes did it with Richard Wright and Mirallas. Martinez did it with Baines. Are we to say that just because Koeman is new and has seen an unbeaten run in four games that we ease off criticising him?
Only temporarily for the reasons Dave himself has mentioned. He's new, he's made a good start, there's just no need to have the knives out about anything this early. Let's see Koeman over a decent stretch of games before we either start hailing him as the messiah or hounding him out.
OK 2 things here! firstly it was hardly a dressing down, unless of course the person viewing it is an over sensitive drama queen.
Secondly, is that second one even a serious questions?
If you would feel betrayed by a manager saying you were a good player that had a poor game, then its probably just as well you are not a player.
The lad suffered a broken leg, went through sitting on the bench for a long time under Moyes, suffered seeing the team around him capitulate on a regular basis under Martinez, but still battled his way into the first team and on into the England national team, if he was as mentally weak as you, he wouldn't of made it to the youth team to even get his leg broken, let alone the rest of it. If think he will cope with being told he got subbed for playing below his capabilities.
He was asked a question and he answered it truthfully, he'd do the same about any player and frankly thats refreshing. Though i'm sure you'll claim innocence, its pretty obvious that you're making a mountain out of a molehill here because you can't jump on his results thus far.[/QSorry mate I'm not sure what your issue is here. Are you upset that he is singling Barkley out for criticism, or that Koeman is criticising his players in public.? Maybe both? There's an issue there that hasn't been addressed: no one is arguing Koeman isn't doing his job. he has the perfect right to sub or drop who he wants. After last season's antics from this lot, I'd welcome that as long as it's consistent and shows no fear or favour. The issue that's constantly been ignored is that this has been in the public domain, a very open and public dressing down of a player. THAT is a legitimate concern (shamefully a couple here have used that legitimate question - or their frustration at being incapable of addressing it to beg for a ban on asking it).
If it's the latter, then I agree it's an issue that will polarise our supporters. My personal view is that as long as he is consistent and is not overly critical to the extent where he will marginalise the player, then I think it's ok. But I can fully understand your concern.
If it's unfair treatment of Barkley, then I think you're off the mark, both on the subject itself and on your statement the issue hasn't been addressed. It's been commented on by numerous posters which, conveniently, you would appear not to have read. I actually think that Koeman's post match comments about Rom's mouthing off were more controversial given that he had just scored a hat trick. Hardly a case of hitting on a player when he is down!!
Okay, that's a tad more reasonable, but I'm honestly all for calling a spade a spade regardless of how long someone has had a job
If he does something questionable, we should question it. Doesn't matter if he's been here for 5 years or 5 minutes
Questioning and criticising are not the same as "getting out the knives"
I felt this when Martinez was in and I think it now with Koeman in
Yes, give him a chance, but also don't be afraid to say if you think something's fishy
I disagree with Dave on this particular situation, but I agree with his argument in theory
This whole thing though has been blown WAY out of proportion
As @deipnosophist said, it's a storm in a teacup
Great move by Koeman, Slate a young lad in public when his confidence is rock bottom
Can see why Valencia players turned on him tbh and makes you wonder if the story about Southampton players not liking is true
