Ross Barkley

I agree about Rom.

He needs to add aggression to his game, because he's got the physique to bully players like Drogba did but rarely uses it and often ducks out of 50\50 balls.

I am a bit worried about Ross. The fact he's let his contract get to the last year speaks volumes to me.

I can see why your worried, at the same time I think there is nothing to worry about either.

Reason being that because ross is a blue we all expect we can walk in with one day of his current contract left and have him sign a 5 year deal, he is a blue afterall.

Just because he is a blue doesn't mean we should leave him until the last minute, then again how many people would of been as bothered 6-12 months ago ? His recent form is a joy to watch.

Yeah but you want to play in the best teams with the best players. The better quality of players you play alongside, the more you improve yourself. Why should he wait till he's 25 if he has the chance now? He could break his leg at 24 and never be able to play again. And what if we don't get to the CL? Does he just hang around until we do?

Valid points Billy Jean, but I think players these days can more often than not run into these big decisions blindly or following orders from agents rather than what they may want personally. Here is my scenario:

Romelu 2017 - We need to show ambition, we missed out on PL targets (mata, sygi, perez etc)
Romelu 2018 - Scores 20+ again and shows the 'drogba-esque' potential we all expect.
Romelu 2019 - I have given 6 years of my career here, scored 20+ a season, im in my prime at 25, I really need UCL football.

if Romelu was to do that, then I don't think anybody can hold a grudge with the man, it would seem like a natural progression.
If Ross was to leave this summer, or even in 2 years time like Romelu, I feel he would be more open to criticism than most other players here.

I wish I was as confident as you about it. I hope I'm wrong I just have a bad feeling and don't understand why he wasn't given a new contract last summer.

Maybe a sideways look at this, but of all the players here, it seems to me that Koeman has invested more time and effort on Ross. Which has born fruit recently.

Would be weird if after that, he, (RK) would be happy to see him shifted on. And I cant believe Ross is aching for a move.

Things will be sound.

Complete opposite when it comes to lukaku. He could of stuck at chelsea but he eanted to get out, he wanted to play football and become a player
No I think it was more like he was pushed out, Mourinho didn't rate or want him even after he had a decent loan spell with us, we were the best available destination for him at the time.

Still no mention anywhere in the media of him getting a game tomorrow. After being totally overlooked during the week when the likes of Livermore, Ward Prowse, Lingard and Redmond all got game time, the likes of AOC is being mentioned today as starting in midfield. I don't think there's an attacking midfielder in better form than Ross at the moment, perhaps Hazard. But he's not even getting a mention as an option. Mind boggling.

Feel for the lad as I know it's important to him, but after last night a part of me hopes he stays on the sidelines.

Disgrace
But hardly surprising. Lingard & the Ox getting mentioned as starters.

Barkley 3rd in creating chances this season only behind Eriksen & de bruyne. More assists than any English player in the last 18months. Even though he's played for a team that's finished 11th and now in 7th.

Same assists this season, but a coupe of goals less than that superstar lallana, who's having the season of his life.

Terry butcher after the Germany game was asked about Barkley. And he said he needs to up his game, as he's been poor for 2yrs. Really winds me up when these ex players and cockney journalists who obviously never watch him but have opinions based on hear say.

I've said for 2/3 yrs this all stems from Roy the dinosaur. After he criticised Ross in that pre World Cup friendly in 2014.

Ross could get 20 goals and assists next season and win player of the year. But he will still be seen as a player with no brain who gives the ball away

Annoys the hell out of me this myth about ball retention. FFS even some of our own fans believe it.

My big worry is that Ross may feel he has to move away to gain that recognition.

Hopefully both he and Rom will be here next year to prove them all wrong.
