Ross Barkley

I wonder if today's news on the ground might help us when it comes to Ross and Romalu and us wanting them to sign extensions. We are working hard as a club on all aspects of it, it will take time but we're making progress and we need those two to be part of the future.
Rom talks about ambition, to me this is part of the clubs ambition but will these two see it like that? I hope so, playing in the CL will come, playing in one of the countries finest stadiums a few times a month has to be attractive

Romelu probably wont. Let me make it real clear to everyone to save heartbreak, for all the talk of ambition, most players these days who say the are ambitious are often the least ambitious out there. Being ambitious is about sacrificing everything to get to where you want to be. Modern footballers like Romelu expect to jump ship to a big team where somebody else has done all the hard work.

If Rom is ambitious then stay here and build in the pitch what moshiri is building off it.

Im really ambitious. Im just going to wait for Apple or Google to offer me a job before i work for Dixons or any other lesser company. Some other sod can do the grafting whilst i wait to call in a favour. #AmbitiousMeLarrr

Totally agree players like Lukaku (and loads more) just want the easy route to trophies, move to certain teams your more or less guranteed throphies. Also going to them type of teams give you a massive pay rise to.

Complete opposite when it comes to lukaku. He could of stuck at chelsea but he eanted to get out, he wanted to play football and become a player

I prefer it when players try to drag the less fancied teams into the champions league. Has more of a satisfactory feel about it that way.

Suarez getting Liverpool into the champions league being one example.
I also think if Harry Kane can fire spurs into Europe above arsenal, it would be that little bit more sweeter for him.

Teams like Villarreal and Leverkusen for example have players trying to get UCL football, they have then earned the right to move IMO.

My initial thoughts on Rom were get us UCL football then leave at 25 for a top club (not many better than ours).

Suarez sacked them off for barca, and tried to force a move to arsenal before that

Yes but what he did was fire them to the UCL then asked to leave.
My point I was trying to make earlier was that Romelu could afford to wait until he is 25, give Moshiri and co two years to try and build the club off the pitch. If we are then in the UCL or at least competing, he can then leave and say that he did give us everything. Instead he has had one season where he has shown his UCL ability and now he wants out.
Players just want to jump to Barca, Madrid, Bayern where everything is already on a plate for them. Personally I would love to be the man who gets Everton, Milan or say Marseille in the UCL. Its a bigger achievement than just walking into barca were 99% of the work has been done for you.

honestly lads i love romelu would do anything to keep him but he owes us nothing at all, who can blame him for wanting to move to a champions league team hes stayed 3 years when he could of moved each time and we have achieved nothing.i know how good the future looks now but were still a couple of years away. europa league champions league at a push but he could play for most teams now, Barkley on the other hand i hope he stays more than anything but if he does go its are fans fault people are on his back so much now there not because hes playing amazing, i do think ross will see the potential of the team and will stay as im sure its his dream to win something with everton unlike roms who is to win anywhere.

Has he not been doing that the last 4 years?
He could of easily sat on chelsea's bench and hoped he had got a chance but didnt.
Got a move to us, was sold on the idea of getting champions league with us and the club utterly failed him

I had this 4 years debate with another poster recently.

When I say 4 years to reach UCL quality, I think its pretty much agreed that the previous 3 years he has done well, but to be the level of cavani, suarez, lewandowski and other UCL strikers you need to be affecting games even when you don't score. First touch and drifting out of games being two of rom's weaknesses. I say that until this season were he has shown a better all round game.

I think Carra said it in his GOT interview that players like Drogba used to bully defenders, he could be man of the match and not even score !
Same rings true for Romelu.

The club may need another two years to progress off the pitch, Romelu can afford these two years at only 23. Romelu has made us wait three years to see him reach the potential he has as shown this year, maybe he should return the favour and give the club two years to reach potential.

If Barkley swerves a new deal now and leaves, then we would criticise him for years, who the hell does he think he is ? Took about 4 years to reach his potential, and this is how he thanks the fans and Koeman who gave him a kick up the backside !!!!

I think you get the point ;)

agree in principle, but he couldn't have moved each time because nobody has been interested in him, no bids, nothing.

Agree on that completely

I agree about Rom.

He needs to add aggression to his game, because he's got the physique to bully players like Drogba did but rarely uses it and often ducks out of 50\50 balls.

I am a bit worried about Ross. The fact he's let his contract get to the last year speaks volumes to me.

Yeah but you want to play in the best teams with the best players. The better quality of players you play alongside, the more you improve yourself. Why should he wait till he's 25 if he has the chance now? He could break his leg at 24 and never be able to play again. And what if we don't get to the CL? Does he just hang around until we do?

I wouldn't criticise him, I'd criticise the fans who were constantly on his back. He doesn't owe us antyhing. He's had 3.5 seasons with us, and for all but half a season he's done well for us.

Really interesting snippet from Koeman's interview about Cruyff. He recounts Cruyff using almost exactly the same words as a manager who was trying to improve a player he believed in (Koeman), as Koeman did when talking about Barkley recently:

"I was a libero playing in front of the defence. But Johan felt I didn’t play the role well enough. My timing, when to come in and when to drop back, it was a constant debate. At certain points he drove me crazy. But Johan would just shrug his shoulders and say, ‘You should start worrying when I ignore you. I’m trying to make you see it.’ He was trying to make me a better player, more aware of the game. He made me use my brain."
