Everton manager Roberto Martinez says midfielder
Ross Barkley is making good progress in his bid to return from injury – and hopes to see the England international back on the pitch in 'a few weeks'.
Barkley was struck down by a medial knee ligament problem on the eve of the 2014/15 campaign, with the initial prognosis putting the 21-year-old out for two to three months.
Martinez is hopeful the Academy product could now make a quicker-than-expected comeback - but revealed a scan next week will provide a clearer update.
Asked about Barkley's rehabilitation, the Toffees chief exclusively told evertontv: "The knee is reacting really well, we've got a scan next week to see his progress and probably he's a little bit ahead of the timescale that we had early on, which is always positive.
"And you always expect that from Ross because, being such a young man and such a strong individual, I do feel that he'll get back a lot quicker than everyone expected.
"But, still, he's a few weeks away from being fully fit."
