Rooney sell on clause

Something in the paper today that next summer, when Rooney enters the final 12 months of his contract, he will be able to invoke the 'Webster rule' and buy out his own contract for £12m, which his next club would reimburse him in a signing on fee. I can't see United letting him wind down his contract.

If Chelsea do come back with a £40m offer this week and we're entitled to 25% over £24m, it could be a £4m windfall!

If I remember correctly it is 25% of any profit on the fee they paid us. The total fee, with add-ons, we eventually received was about £27m so if United sell for £35m we should get £2m... which is nice!

Has Moyes talked him around

Personally I think he's been told that if wants to move on then he's going to have to issue a formal transfer request & at his level that'd mean him missing out a fortune in loyalty bonuses, so he's refused.

I think the entire saga was initially being lead by United wanting rid, but the fact they've not landed their key targets e.g. Fabregas / Bale / Ronaldo, has meant they've had to back track a little.

These guys are so rich, why are they all worried about a loyalty bonuses, cant the team who buying them give a signing on fee to make up for the loss.
I get the impression that he doesn't really want to move to London, he got a lovely home here and two young children. I wanted him to leave just to [Poor language removed] Moyes but looks like Moyes might get a season out of him.:(

As more and more times passes so does the probability of him coming back to Everton.

I think if it ever was likely to happen it'd be the end of this season as he'll only have a year left on his contract and can either buy it out or force their hand a bit more. I don't think it's likely even if he was out of contract, but still.

He's better than Van Persie when both bang on form and he looks motivated to show it this season. Will be an interesting season for him.

Really, Id say the opposite. If he had of signed for Chelsea, he'd of no doubt signed a 5 year contract. However, now he's at United still, his contract only has 3 years left, and they'll be actively seeking to sell in 1.5. Whats needed really, is a club with about £24m in spendable cash to approach them in January, or next Summer, and save them the hassle of searching.

I was saying to Fox before who brought this up that I can still see someone throwing relative silly money at him when he has a year left on his contract and Stretford forcing it but Rooney isn't as daft as some thing he is. He knows if he is to come back to Everton then he'll have to swerve doing it too late or he'll stand no chance of the fans being on side. For some they never will anyway but each to their own.

Clubs have an agreement with each other not to do this, as it would increase player power and it'd basically be a big mess
