They couldn't get anyone better because the club is burning down financially.

Messi either privately told them he wants to leave and/or they are ready to get his wages off the books + get a healthy cash in. Ronald is prefect fall guy to lay the blame on for the fan fallout.

I'm failing to understand all the "Get rid of Messi" opinions. He has been La Liga top scorer this season. He and Suarez were Barcelona's best players in that Bayern thrashing. Without him, Barca would be mid table.
And where is the proof of him supposedly controlling every aspect at the club? Aside from newspaper/tabloid and media/twitter gossip? No actual quotes from anyone with relevance. He has publicly voiced crticism of the clubs board over the past. Nothing else.
Get a manager with a viable statergy in place to accomodate his talent along with the others and their "crises" would end. Koeman could be that guy.
The club ended in second position having won the last 2 league titles. They're hardly fallen to ACMilan/Man United levels of dirge. And their biggest rivals, Real Madrid are having a clear up of their own adjusting to the post Ronaldo era. The Bale thing is a joke and they rely heavily on the aging Benzema.
The entitled Barcelona fans are hard to please though. Expecting trebles every year as if it is their right to win.
He’s still the best player in the world and has just become only the second player after Thierry Henry to register over 20 goals and assists in a season in a top five league. The question is is he now becoming a negative influence in the team/club? He basically calls the shots there. Who signs, who plays where, and how long the manager stays. If Messi is unhappy with a manager the manager goes. And the players...so many are underperforming there. Griezmann, Coutinho..they could definitely be much better. But is Messi inhibiting them? I never thought Griezmann was a good fit for a Messi side. Dembele (although I’ve never rated him as a top player) could possibly flourish in a side that isn’t geared to Messi, a Messi that is 33 and slightly on the wane.

Overall though I’d keep him. They need to discard the older players who aren’t doing it, Vidal being the first out the door. They are a team that don’t have the legs to keep up with other teams. They need a good coach too, something they haven’t had in a while.
