Ronald Koeman discussion

In Koeman's first season, a lot of the pressing was the remains of Poch's high press, but over his tenure the amount of pressing decreased. He always talked about pressing high up the pitch, but from my experience it was more of just being organised behind the ball, and closing down angles and options, as opposed to the 'full press' he talks about.

During our brilliant run last year, we basically ditched Pelle, and brought in Long, who's energy allowed to us engage in more of a full press, of which we reaped the reward. I don't know if you have the pacey tireless forward needed to recreate the same results. Although with Lukaku (who I really rate) it should be a matter of when, not if, you find the system that works.

There's more chance of me nailing Kate Middleton on the balcony of Buckingham palace then there is of lukaku pressing defenders

You know what, we're really a losers club. We paid 17 milion pounds (10 for Martinez and 7 for Koeman) and yet we didn't improve a bit lol

Plus we have forked out almost £40 million on Niasse and Bolasie in the last two windows.

There is over £50 million in less than a year and we are no further on.

:pint2:

I've never understood it all mate.

@neville used to do it, right up until we pumped them 3-0 at home and the mask slipped off like @moyes cardy 's kecks in the bushes outside of Finch Farm.

The same 'fans in peace' are never on here to talk shop when it's not a win for them - save @Alan Whittle probably.
There is no malice in friendly saints post but yours in reply showed a (no disrespect) Feral response.

Mourinho is having the same problem as us right now. Trying to get the best out of a bunch of past it and/or average at best players.

They played and pressed the opposition well until we got beat by Norwich them suddenly heads have gone down and we don't press or do the basics right again? I've said it before and I'll say it again we have about 4-5 players in that starting 11 who are not good enough and/or not suited to Koemans high pressing energetic style.

I agree , but Unsy's under 23 players probably are -example Tom Davis came on v chelsea and looked the best midfielder dropped!
our under 23s with a few first team players could have bet that shower today Southampton are no a good team !
fumis Mori and Holgate are also unlucky to be benched too!
The under 23's got well and truly done by their German counterparts midweek.I know Unsy played a weaker (age wise) side.. but I agree with you...there would have been more of a bite in the team with some of them in it and..... they slept rough at Goodison on Friday for EITC

I'm starting to believe this is a myth

They were atleast trying this pre Norwich game so why suddenly have they stopped? I'm convinced certain players know they are about to be punted in January/next season and simply don't give a toss. No coincidence that 3 of Koemans 4 regular starting signings look the most arsed on the pitch (Gueye, Bolasie and Williams). Coleman tries and Lukaku is quality but outside of that the rest of the side is grim and Barkley isn't doing it this or last season.
