Ian, it is a contradiction in terms to suggest we lost Stones due to "our woeful league record" when he himself was the cornerstone of our defence for most of last season and for almost the entirety of the previous one.

Plus he had slapped in a transfer request at the end of the previous season, suggesting to me at any rate he was gone this summer even if we had done a Leicester.

I have to disagree, Stones barely played last season.

I agree that he "barely played" last season.

But he did start 31 league games and came on as a sub in another two

only Rom, Ross and GB played more often.
