£30m. If the Rooney transfer is anything to go by. Won't need to replace him until he retires. A sound investment.

The moment teams get wind he wants out is the moment 5-10 mil gets knocked off his price tag, not to mention the fact all and sundry know we will need the money to keep the club alive.

Football sucks.

Because he won't be sold for less than that. We're in the driver's seat on this one. Rare, but true.
Rooney wouldnt be sold for less than 50 million..if Rodwell is to leave he cant be let go for anything less than 20 mill.

Trouble BK isnt the best at this transfer lark so lets hope he leaves it to someone who can get as much as they can.

Well there are a few differences between Rooney and Rodwell's situation:

1) Rooney was a much more proven entity than Rodwell is currently

2) The transfer market has changed drastically even in the relatively short time since Rooney's move to United, inflation has been huge in football.

3) Everton are in a far better position than they were when Rooney went to United. We finished 17th in 2004, this season we look to be finishing in the top 8 and there's even an admittedly outside chance we could scrape into Europe. The squad is also far stronger (barring injuries) than the one we had in 2004.

I can't see United paying more than £25m for Rodwell, it all seems to rest on whether he will want to leave and whether Kenwright will be willing to take that amount of money and run, hoping Rodwell doesn't become a prolific success the following season.

He won't be sold. We (at least most on this forum) value him more than does the market. Potential doesn't equal finished product. RadioFriendly mentioned it earlier. It's a risk betting on potential that can't be slotted in a position. That risk discounts his value.

That's fine by me. I'd rather have the satisfaction of Jack growing into that £30M player at EFC while realizing his potential on the pitch at Goodison.

15+ add ons for international gamers etc if it's to Man Utd.

Let's remember he may become a very good central defender but the complete articles in that position go for no more than 30mil (Lescott was supposed to be amongst the leagues best...carvalho was amongst europe's best and both went for 25-30) so it make absolutely no sense to pay more for potential.

He's not a goalscorer he's not a creative player (ie he's no Rooney) so he will NEVER go for 25/30m unless it's to Man City.

United really don't need Rodwell right now. Like someone else said, they need to add some proven quality. They've added a lot of youngsters lately, and really Rodwell isn't necessary in his current state.

That said, young players blossom under Fergie, and seem to progress quite quickly. Not to mention that their midfield is anchored by the ageing Scholes, the useless Carrick and the fairly ordinary Fletcher. Rodwell could probably slot in there on current form, so factor in his potential, and you can see why they'd be after him.

However Fergie is no mug. No one pays over the odds for someone whose only selling point is potential. He's still not found his position, and unless he does that soonish, he's going to continue to be a utility player. A -- excuse the pun, again -- Jack of all trades. No one pays a lot for utility players.

rodwell will never in a million years become a centre half .1 he cant head a ball, moyes has told people this .he came into the team as a centre half ,and he has not started there once ,has he not ..ithink in years to come he would make a decent attacking right back .sim to ian snodin .but center half or center mid its a no no. he couldnt get near danny murhpy sat ,and he is slow as **** ,but hes got a brain ,unlike young jack

I disagree with the slow comment, I will say. He's got bags of pace when he needs it. He's marauded down the flanks for us a good few times, showing plenty of pace and plenty of strength.

I do agree that defensively speaking he seems quite naive. He is 20, mind, but I'd be surprised to see him end up in defense.
