He won't go for Wigan again, he has learned from Kone.

But McCarthy is a good player and if we can get another of his caliber I will be v. happy.

Just looking at some of the players Martinez brought in at Wigan to see where he usually shops and if there are any hints of who might come in during January.

Wigan
2009/10

Moses (Palace) £2.6m
Caldwell (Celtic) £0.9m
Diame (Rayo Vallecano) £2.6m
Sinclair (Chelsea)
McCarthy (Hamilton) £4.4m
Gomez (Espanyol B) £2.1m

2010/11

Sammon (Kilmarnock) £0.6m
Di Santo (Chelsea)
Cleverley (United)
Boselli (Estudiantes de la Plata) £6.5m
Stam (Twente) £3.5m
McArthur (Hamilton) £0.5m
Alcaraz (Bruges) Free
Al Habsi (Bolton)

2011/12

Beausejour (Birmingham) £4.1m
Van Aanholt (Chelsea)
Maloney (Celtic) £0.9m

2012/13

Kone (Levante) £3.3m
Miyiachi (Arsenal)
Ramis (Mallorca) £5.2m
Fyvie (Aberdeen) £0.5m

So, looking for patterns:

Spain: (8) Joel, Kone, Ramis, Crusat, Piscu, Diame, Amaya, Gomez.
Championship: (8) Beausejour, Al Habsi, Jones, Kiernan, Caldwell, Al Habsi, Moses, Scotland.
Scotland: (6) Fyvie, Maloney, Sammon, McArthur, Caldwell, McCarthy,
Premier League: (6) Henriquez, Miyaichi, van Aarnholt, di Santo, Cleverley, Sinclair
Germany: (2) Scharner, Gohouri,
France: Dicko,
America: Espinoza
Argentina: Boselli,
Holland: Stam,
Belgium: Alcaraz,
Ukraine: Moreno,
Portugal: Stoijkovic,
Honduras: Thomas

So far we've had Deulofeu, Joel (Spain), Alcaraz, Kone, McCarthy (Championship), Lukaku, Barry (Premier League).

We're allowed one more loan from abroad, which could suggest someone from Spain.

I'm not so sure many players from the Championship would improve us. Maybe Tom Ince or Will Hughes?

According to the Bleacher report the best prospects in Scotland apart from Celtic's Forster and Matthews are May (St Johnstone striker), McKay (Inverness striker), Mackay-Steven (Dundee United winger).

Roberto tends to pick up fringe players from the big boys. As it would need to be a permanent move maybe De Bruyne, Sigurdsson or Defoe would be options?

A bit harsh considering only McCarthy actually played in the premiership and that was only about 4 games.

If Real sign a striker maybe they'll loan us Morata? Ancellotti has talked about sending him out at the end of the season.

Great shout, would love that. Maybe Real have seen how well Bobby has looked after Del boy so far and would welcome sending their players to us!

Heard a rumour of Mark Noble from West Ham. For me he'd be a welcome signing. Say what you want about West Ham, but Noble is a fantastic passer, he'd fit in perfectly in the centre. And McCarthy, Barry and Noble battling for those 2 CMF positions it would be great for the team. Just as Ossie and Barkley have in recently weeks been battling for the AMF role, they've pushed each other.

Just another thought, Sunderland are heading down. Take a look at Johnson's clear cut chances, it's quite impressive. Also we don't know if Gerard is going to stay for another year after next, so we should be looking at replacements (also Pienaar will be 32 next year).

Nah Mark Noble is West Ham through and through. I also think he's playing at about the right level at West Ham, although they're underperforming at the moment.
