Roberto Martinez discussion

@davek i like you but i'm finding this 'loyalty' stance youre trying to portray and pissing myself laughing at the hypocrisy of it.

This is coming from the guy who was fervently demanding moyes leave for about four years.

i don't want martinez gone, and i'll still give him a chance if we are way, way away from relegation zone in a few weeks. But if we're not i don't mind us binning him off for the benefit of the club.

I think he did get a lot of luck last season and it luckily 'clicked' because it was new and different for what we had been playing for 11 years.

But he doesn't know how to improve that, which was a moyes weakness.

He's too scared to drop players, his tactics a toddler could defend against.

If any other manager bought one of the worlds best young strikers, for a club record fee and then absolutely refused to play to his strengths, they'd be absolutely laughed at.

i don't think he's tactically all that.

I agree with a lot that you say there.

I remember when wigan got relegated and martinez played the same way each game.

The fans booing when we were 3 up against QPR should be something he picks up on.

I just think the job is too big for him and i am worried how he is ruining Lukaku.

All the football we are currently playing is pretty and neat but we have a very soft center. We are getting out-muscled at corners and set-pieces and a through direct up-and-at-them type style. Martinez seems quite content for Everton to make 600 passes and retain 70% of the possession but when we are dealt with a sucker-punch, our play becomes mangled and prosperous and predictable. The opposition lets us have the ball in places we can't hurt them, or they press us from the front in order to force our defenders into making a mistake, thereby creating a chance to score for themselves. All in all, if this continues, it will look grim. We need to mix it. Even the better teams (Chelski and Citeh) mix it; they go long when they need to, they will scrap and move the ball forward quickly when necessary. They know when they slow it down. With us, it's so predictable and others managers have caught on. Martinez should stop being stubborn. He should learn from where he went wrong at Wigan (because loads of things went wrong at Wigan) and he needs to come up with new stratagems. All that chirpy, fun-loving, "phenomenal", Mr Nice-Guy is beginning to pee me right off! I want results!

I have lost faith and don't think he is capable of turning it round.
We are so easy to play against and he changes nothing.
Playing without width today was laughable and so easy for them.
Martinez is lost and the drivel he comes out with after games is making him look stupid.
The players seem lost and the spirit is lacking.
Serious question.....did you ever have the faith with RM in the first place?

I thought last season he was a breath of fresh air.
Now however he seems clueless not knowing what to do.
He won't change our style and every team we play just press us and wait for mistakes.
He is like a rabbit in car headlights and just seems lost.
I need to believe a manager will change things when its not going right.
The players seem unfit, lack desire and are probably bored themselves with the sideways rubbish we play.
To me he is lost and the players must see that as well.

We won't be anywhere near relegation. The bottom 5 are terrible with 38 points probably enough.

But that's not the point, we have a very good starting 11 that isn't delivering. Something is different this year and it had to come from the manager. We are slow with no purpose when last year we were quick and direct, always on the front foot.

Teams have nullified our full backs, which RM hasn't adapted to. I have faith in him, but it's starting to fade.

We are everton though and should be looking to break into the top 4.
I would not rule out fighting a relegation battle there is more chance of that than fighting for a european place

But it could be the case that he's not telling them clearly enough how to be good.

No pro player should ever need to be told that mate, come on.

Its simple, some top players have been very poor, added to a big injury list and the inevitable transition season from a new manager at a new level!?!
It was bound to happen at some point.

Luckily we look quality in europe.

I love how martinez is telling the players to be sh1t, clueless.
Ah the job must be p*ss easy then, the manager has nothing to do with the performance of the team then "go out kick that round thing into the oblong posty thing with the net hanging off the back,if you do we'll win games,if you don't it's nothing to do with me"

Yep the manager is not to blame in any way shape or form.....

Come on,he's got to be culpable when we're so poor, his team selection, his tactics, his fault

Agree team selections have been too much at times, but that team he put out should be enough to win that game, eto was poor, his touch was off, barry was bad, distin was terrible, yes he picked them, but they let the boss down.

I agree we've not been good enough but Martinez tactics and team selections don't seem good enough either. The Spurs game for one were we had Barkley and Eto'o wondering aimlessly springs to mind instantly. If their not doing what he's asked of them they should get the hook but if he's happy to watch that sort of thing it's concerning.

I haven't seen today's game but it sounds similar, his mojo is missing and the players are feeling it to. We need a spark and rehashing formations that haven't worked isn't going to provided that.

Agree. But a relegation battle is highly unlikely, as is a top 6 finish.

However, RM needs to go back to basics, before he is really under pressure
