Roberto Martinez discussion

The fact that aside from West Ham we've dropped points against everyone that's put up a game and been competitive is worrying.

Their seems to be a lack of cohesion in the forward play, it's like he's told the lads to get out their with no instructions at all.

Obviously he doesn't as he had 3 wide men on the bench today mate and still stuck to sticking barkley out wide.

He is trying to work out an effective way to balance the requirements of Europe and the league with a relatively small squad. He is bound to make mistakes as it's an ambitious goal to reach the champions league when your squad is already stretched.

Also this last season:

Has earned him some goodwill from me for now.

He didn't adapt which is my major problem. He just tweaked a system that wasn't working. We could have taken the game to them after half time if he had been decisive.

He definitely needs to improve his decision making this season.

Big learning curve for him with the added pressure of Europe at a club with raised expectations so lets judge him at seasons end.

Not the first time he has been caught coming out with the ball. Do our players not talk to each other.

There was one point in the 2nd half where he misplaced a pass forward and while the spurs forwards countered past him he stood apologising instead of running with them. infuriating performance.

Of course but they aren't difficult lessons. It's the same mistakes over and over.

But Barkley and Mirallas have been injured and are not quite up to speed yet. That is why we are a bit disjointed at the moment. Martinez has a choice. Tentatively bring both or one of them back or take the plunge and bring both back to get match fit and we go from there. The 'routine' has been unsettled because of injury.

Maybe so. If they are all back though, I expect him to play them and play them in position.

The pace we play at this season is much slower than last season and I think it comes down to personnel chosen and a lack of self belief in teammates. Coleman is a good example of it: that lad has literally no idea each week who is in front of him. None whatsoever. That in turn has affected his own game badly. And you can see bits of that all over the pitch.
