Current Affairs Rishi Sunak

It's quite an amazing feat that truss comes through this unscathed, in that she's been some sort of pm for a record short time but has little if any covid issue connected to her. She won't be called up to answer questions to the committee. boris is due to bumble his way through a grilling (I hope the guy doing the examination has two knuckle dusters that day!) and a sitting pm is on for a range of excuse making shortly after.

The inquiry seems to be getting quite a lot of negative info about the decision making done, and I don't see many options besides 'made in good faith' being the only answers. Whether that'll wash with the blasé attitudes to the rampaging death tolls is another thing, or does the nation simply not care anymore, covid is gone and we've all lived through it so who cares etc...
Boris has gone... They saw this coming and got shot, he would have survived Partying and Pincher. This would have brought the Government down had he still been PM at this time. It will get tasty when Sunak gives evidence, however, no Whatsapp message's have been submitted from Sunak, and only limited stuff from Boris.

Van Tam also confirms he wasn't consulted over Sunaks Eat Out To Spread It About scheme. Backing up Vallance and Whittys testimony this week. Sunak will need to be recalled to tell the truth for once, think he may have around Boris too much.

Gareth Thomas (Lab) asks if Sunak was telling the truth when he told the Covid inquiry that he had taken advice from scientists about the eat out to help out scheme – when Sir Patrick Vallance told the inquiry that this was not the case.

Sunak says he will be giving evidence himself. But he claims the government did take advice on this from scientific advisers.

Not defending Sunak in the slightest, but medical folk are never wrong, in their world. I have said before, they know a lot, but they dont know everything. (Not that they will admit though).

Are you saying Whitty Valance and Tam are colluding against Sunak about whether he sort medical advice about his Eat out scheme?

It's not about them never being wrong (because they are. Often). What it's about is they're best placed to be "right", so to ignore them is pretty foolish.

No. I am saying many medical folk have a god complex. Not a clue if they were ignored or not, but they have a survival mechanism similar to politicians.

That as may be, but in a pandemic when you have experts in pandemics, it surely pays to listen to them over the tits in the Tory cabinet who can't even explain exponential growth?

I reckon they did listen to them. Every decision made back then was a probability call. As far as I can see, every decision made is now being questioned by the folk who gave the probability. One week early, one week later, its easy with hindsight.

Look, I am not defending the Govt, I am just shedding some light of my experience of senior medical folk. They are never wrong, and rarely culpable. Nurse Letby exhibit #1. One relatively junior boss suspended.

Maybe, but you seem to be saying you think sunak is telling the truth for once and they're lying.

No. I am not saying that. I just find it very very unlikely that Sunak would have woke up one morning and thought that his Eat Out plan was a good idea, without getting some advice/guidance. Now, that guidance may have proved to be piss poor, well, it was. But the medical circling of the wagons is sommet I am all too familier with. "Not me gov".

Everything I know about sunak tells me that's very much likely to be the case.

My understanding is that Sunak's decision was an economic one, not a medical one, and as such, the economy overrode any concerns about health.
