Major was not the wet nonentity he was made out to be. He had a backbone of steel inside that grey exterior. I disagreed with him hugely, hated the bugger when he was in power, in fact, but I don't think his resolve can be questioned. He faced down the nutters in his party over Europe. He made economic decisions that I considered unfeasibly evil at the time, and they made him very unpopular, but I believe he was truly public service minded, which I can't say of any of the bastards currently knocking around at the top of the Tory Party. Certainly not your hero Johnson. Major is ten times the man that slug is.
