but again there is another side to the coin, the majority of these oap's have worked/ paid taxes most of their lives and I may be on the minority on this forum, but I do believe these people deserve a bit of comfort in their old age. But I can not agree with one word that caller had on there, she will no doubt have had hardened Tory parents who have brought her up with them views, children often mirror their parents and our often " conditioned" to them views, my opinion anyway.
I believe that there's an agenda to pit the young vs the old as groups who require the most resources they can be played off against each other.

I'm not sure simply stating facts represents an agenda tbh. I was on the radio this morning talking about more older people working, and from a demographic perspective that would be hugely helpful, and yet if you dare to suggest it you're painted as the devil denying hard working people the chance to put their feet up. Black and white reductionism doesn't help matters (not that this is what you're doing, but it's what often happens).

Listening to that maybe Bruce has a point, sorry but that was sickeningly stupid from that caller, She has definitely been conditioned for most of her life, hates Labour- tick, hates Unions - tick admits the tories are terrible but will vote for them anyway to keep Labour out-tick. Pete is she family.. lol

Now I have explained this ad nauseam. I was a trade union rep, I voted Labour, I delivered Labour leaflets for Harold Wilson. But times change and so did politicians and indeed union leaders. I choose who I vote for and I don’t particularly rate many of todays politicians. I think Boris is a strategic leader, but not doer, Sunak is a lightweight who is learning as he goes but has little charisma, Starmer is a lightweight political weather vane who will change direction if he thinks it will get a vote instead of doing what is right. Of the rest of the so called leaders, Sturgeon has lost her political nouse having been in the job too long and Drakeford is an idiot. I will not be voting for the MP I voted for at the last election. I read a wide variety of media offering differing opinions and take little note of biased reporting. I make up my own mind and always have done…..

There is almost certainly truth in this. “We have always voted Labour and always will” is a comment heard in certain parts of the country, ditto for Conservatives. Both have a core that will never change instead of picking the right people for the job at hand. It is the swing voters that decide Governments, the rest are just making up the numbers….

This may not be apparent to the younger people on here but I'm sure the over 60s will recognise it.
There is a class or snob value to many older generation folk voting tory.
They see themselves as middle-class for whatever reason, and voting for or supporting Labour is low class, working class.

Not so much now I think. The Red Wall fell at the last election remember with many people voting Tory for the first time. Think the entrenched Tory vote and base is stronger than that of Labour these days. Would be hard pushed to even identify who Labour’s base really is.

Where you live and the environment can affect this I suppose, I’m not so sure about the ‘snob’ value which seems a little old fashioned tbh…..

In my experience it's mostly people aged 40 and under.

I only know of one person that age willing to vote for the Tories next time around, and he's not short of money.

It is old fashioned but it definitely existed and still probably does in the more traditional area of the country.
