As an interesting bit of trivia, did you know that Everton have the highest number of top scorers in English football history? Everton players have won the golden boot 12 times over the years, which is one more than Arsenal players.

He also only ever finished in the top 10 scorers in the league once (his first season). He finished 10th that year, behind such talents as David Speedie and Bernie Slaven.

Always thought he was a big waste of money. We paid about 3.2m for him which I think was a record fee at the time. Always bagged 3 in the league cup games and against the crap teams in the league then never scored for a month.

We paid 2.2.m for him.

Since Cottee we've had strikers who had droughts of many months (Saha, Rooney, Cahill, Yak, Bent, Beattie, AJ, Vic etc).

Cottee was never one of the best Premiership strikers, but he was one of our greatest goalpoachers. I feel some see him as symbolic of our post-87 crash into mediocrity, which is just a tad unfair.
