Set pieces are the number one issue we have. We aren't playing any differently to what we were for the vast, vast majority of last season. God awful football, no clue about how to build attacks in open play, no urgency to close opponents down or set a tempo in our own performances and about fifty other reasons why we are witnessing the exact same crap served up by two different Champions League winning managers.
The only difference is set pieces. We've morphed from a side that were never concerned by them and used to play for corners as they were our best chance at scoring into one that concedes a set piece more or less every single game and can't score from them at all. There have been so many sides this season that have either changed a game against us on a set piece or got away from us completely on a set piece.
We have absolutely nothing to worry about at all if we can fix this one problem. We'll still be crap of course, but we were absolutely dire last season and were comfortably midtable. If we keep conceding them at the rate we do and can't figure out a way to start scoring from them then there is every chance we'll be a team that have major concerns about relegation.
Someone needs to strap Benitez to a chair and make him watch our match against Chelsea recently a thousand times until the message sinks in. If you are defensively competent and don't concede stupid goals from corners, no matter how completely pony your team is you always have a chance of getting a decent result if you can put a set piece away.
