I don’t think it is. I think our fans are conditioned to imagine worst case scenarios in every event. If we stay up you watch, we’ll have people in here worrying about a retrospective points deduction before long.

I’d rather be in Leeds’ position than our own, because it’s points on the board, but I’d still be worried of being overtaken by them because they’re in form and we’re not. Think we’ve scored like 7 goals in our last 10 games and 2 of those were against Boreham.

We have fans worried that Burnley are going to string an abundance of wins together despite scoring 4 goals in their last 7 games.

I think that’s more down to a potential new manager bounce and an easier run in. I think it would be odd to not be worried it might happen. I don’t think at the start of the season thought this would happen to us.

Obviously it’s a possibility we’ll continue to lose games and eventually go down. I want the season over as soon as possible because it’s felt like it’s lasted a lifetime. But since the Burnley away game every result has gone in our favour for me, so the door has been left open for us to pull away.

We’ll seal our own fate either way. I’m not worried about Burnley going on a mad run, they are absolute toilet and no game on earth is easy for them, the worry is us flatlining again and failing to pick up points.

It only takes a couple of flukey results for them to overtake and a point at West Ham was a great start. We could quite easily not pick up another point all season.

Leicester is a huge match because right now we’re obviously only 3 points above the relegation zone. And we’re unlikely to get anything from our fixtures against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal etc. But I genuinely think we can get all 3 points against Leicester. Goodison under the lights can be very special indeed; we rarely lose when we play night games at home.

Some have argued that this Leicester match is one of the most important matches in our club’s illustrious history and I agree. The very survival of our club is at stake here; if we go down this season for the first time in well over seventy years we are in big trouble, financially and in every other regard.

Leicester are an excellent side: Recent Premier League champions, current FA Cup holders and UEFA Cup semi-finalists. They’ve also beaten the RS this season. BUT… if the Goodison crowd is up for this one like they were up for the Man Utd game… we’ll have a chance of causing an upset and maintaining our top-flight status. Or at least taking a step towards maintaining our top-flight status.

All it takes is a couple of flukey results for us to overtake Leeds and a win against United was a great start. They could quite easily not pick up another point all season.

Fun this.

I mean it’s not fun; it’s the fate of our top flight status on the line. I wish I was so brazenly confident like you are we’ll survive.

How have you come to that conclusion? All I’ve stated is that results have gone in our favour recently. At no point have I said we’re definitely staying up, there does exist a position that isn’t either extreme you know.

We have 6 points from our last 4 games alone which include Newcastle West Ham Burnley United. Some fans were predicting zero points before that run, and in reality the performances were pretty similar across all four (wouldn’t have been a shock to drop points to Newcastle or United but hold on to win at Burnley or draw at West Ham).

That’s 1.5 ppg over four games not many had hopes for us in. If we can beat Lecistsr then we’re doing even better over a five game stretch.

I could understand the negativity if we’d not won in eons but there’s three home league wins out of five under Lampard with one of the other two being City we should have drawn. We had enough about our performance to get something out of the West Ham and Burnley games too. We are improving from when Lampard first took us over.

Every Burnley fan would want to swap to be in our position, and some Leeds fans will be getting worried if we beat Leicester also. Of course it will be tight but this doom and gloom of ‘we won’t win another game and Burnley will pick up three or four wins’ is not based on any performance that has gone previously. Of course it could happen, but so could us winning every game and Burnley losing every game, again there’s nothing in the previous performances to support that either.

What is most likely to happen is we win enough games at home to stay ahead of them and they don’t have the required number of wins to claw that back in 7 games. Now of course if we mess up against Leicester and they suddenly reel off two wins then the picture changes but at the moment the prophesy song of doom just seems a bit pointless, we have to wait and see.

Wish i was as confident as some in this thread that Burnleys 4 game win this season is more or less how the rest of the season will go.

Staring down the barrel of a gun can change a lot of things.

Few weeks ago i was certain we only had to reel in brentford.
They then went and won 4-1 at chelsea.

Few twists in this i think.
