7th and a derby win would be successful if he took the job in July.7th and a Derby win
A trophy.
Only winning a cup or trophy is success.
Why has the meaning of that word changed!?!
I understand what you are saying but winning a cup is largely luck unless you are one of the big 4/5. Who you get in a draw, what side the opposition put out, how people perform / injuries on the day - all combine positively and negatively. We are definitely due a trophy though.
League position is the real indicator of a managers performance.
When to the meaning of that word change?
When you needed to spend a over a billion to put together a squad, stadium and setup capable of challenging Man United, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal. The current owner does not have the cash to challenge these guys. As someone said earlier - they are over the hill and far away.
We can dream of a Leicester... but that ship has sailed and the richest clubs have fought back by spending at ever greater levels.
One game one swallow does not make a summer- I will reserve judgement give him a chance - the football team he had at Bolton were bruisers! If he keeps us up and terrifies this bunch of choirboys into putting in some performances worthy of their talents, I would call it a successful year. Next year he needs to kick on.
