They matter, but not as much as high profile games for the media in the UK as a whole. Gerrard is using Rangers. He's giving the EL effort 100%; prioritising it while the Rangers fans want 8-in-a-row stopped.

And Rangers could do it too. Celtic have looked ropey all season and were there for the taking. He's let them off the hook.

If Rangers get KO of the EL and they beat Celtic in that last game of the year, they could conceivably go on a run to place pressure on Celtic all the way to the line.
...I know somebody centrally involved at Rangers but I genuinely have no allegiance. Looking forward to doing it in style, seeing Ibrox and sampling the atmosphere. I’ll report back.

Thing is Rangers need to perform to the max to win, whereas Celtic’s squad is so superior they can be at 70-80% to win the league. Their big handicap is having David Brent as their manager
